It started out as a feeling
Which then grew into a hope
Which then turned into a quiet thought
Which then turned into a quiet word

And then that word grew louder and louder
'Til it was a battle cry
I'll come back
When you call me
No need to say goodbye

Just because everything's changing
Doesn't mean it's never been this way before
All you can do is try to know who your friends are
As you head off to the war

Pick a star on the dark horizon
And follow the light
You'll come back when it's over
No need to say goodbye

You'll come back when it's over
No need to say goodbye

Now we're back to the beginning
It's just a feeling and no one knows yet
But just because they can't feel it too
Doesn't mean that you have to forget

Let your memories grow stronger and stronger
'Til they're before your eyes
You'll come back
When they call you
No need to say goodbye

You'll come back
When they call you
No need to say goodbye

My Interpretation:You're depressed because a loved one has died. At first, there's just this intense, overwhelming grief that washes over you, loud as a battle cry, and you can't get over it. But then you realise that it's not over. People die every day, and people mourn, and people overcome. And you need to start overcoming. It's almost as if Regina is hinting that there is an afterlife- you'll see your loved one again someday. While you wait for that day, you can't just wallow in self-pity and sadness. You need to find that silver lining, that star on the dark horizon, grab onto it and let it pull you upward. Don't ever forget; hold onto your good and your bad memories. Always remember that person, but don't let yourself dwell on their death. You'll see them soon. There's no need to say goodbye.

General Comment:This song is about growing up and moving on, but never forgetting where you came from. This can pertain to an 18 year old leaving for college, an adult leaving the comfort of his hometown and moving far away for their career, etc.

General Comment:The meaning is much deeper for me than a love story between two, it is a love story between us all:

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
For me, the first lyric speaks of what is, was and every shall be. It speaks of creation. It speaks of the power of our thoughts and words to manifest.

The last lyric speaks of us now, in these hours of our awakening. Our realization of the deep truth, of searching for it within ourselves and not trying to validate our deep memories through others. A reminder to go inward, focus and manifest those memories till they are before us. The memory within our hearts, minds and spirits that we are all one.

Song Meaning:This song has the most wonderful meaning to me.

It took me about 12 days, to understand what it meant to me.

This is about a person (boy/ girl) waiting for his/her priority one to come back out of something (which was denoted as battle)...then it also assures when the priority one will be coming back when it’s over. And the person will be coming back WHEN (if ever in lifetime) s/he will be called back.

This song also talks about facing the fear/want/love (Battle reasons) etc. that are in the past memories and face them and to make it grow so strong, that they won't haunt or they will make cherish it even more, and only then the battle can be won....well that's what I think of this song and that’s what this song means in my life.

General Comment:I'm gonna be honest, I just think it's about beginning a long distance relationship. I can't decide what the last verse is about though. Option one: the song gives hope to the lovers and reminds them that if they work for it, it'll all turn out alright. Option two: the person moving away has given up the relationship because it's too difficult, and the song is saying to have hope that they'll return.

Or maybe I'm just imposing my own life on it and praying that the singer's right. :/

My Opinion:I think the song is about LIFE and CHANGE. It's saying that nothing will last forever, no one will stay at one place forever, because there is a feeling or a call for each person. The song meaning changes a bit depending on each listener, but the basic meaning goes like this:
"Balancing 'A' (which can be home/love/peace) with 'B' (which can be responsibility/war/struggle)."

"And then that word grew louder and louder
Until it was a battle cry
    I'll come back
    When you call me
    No need to say goodbye"

The person feels deeply inside that they must go somewhere/do something ('B'), which takes them away from 'A'.

"Now we're back to the beginning"

The person reaches 'A' again, so they're back home, or with their loved one, or however you want to interpret it.

"Let your memories grow stronger and stronger
    Until they're before your eyes
    You'll come back
    When they call you
    No need to say goodbye"

These lines are saying that the person will repeat the journey they just took ('B'). The memories of 'B' will grow inside them and soon enough, they will be gone again, meaning they won't stay at 'A' forever.

My Interpretation:The song is about birth and death and about the concept of reincarnation.

The first few lines describe a child growing inside the womb:

    the "feeling" of intimacy
    the "hope" of new life
the "thought" grows into a "word" (or name)
The name growing louder into a battle cry works for both the birth cries or as metaphor for the young innocence growing into the passion of adolescents/young adulthood

The second set of verses is about aging, maturity and going to the grave:

"every things changing" alludes to the aging process while the second half of that line alludes to reincarnation or at least the ongoing circle of life
the rest of that verse is just about bucking up and facing the trials of life while valuing the rewards
following a star on the horizon can be seen as finding your life purpose early on (your calling) and living it too the fullest until you reach your end

The musical interlude is long and beautiful and provides great head space to envision the interlude between the end of one life and the beginning of the next

The final set of verses are about birth again, re-birth, or the continuation of the circle of living. Back to the state of being only a feeling or naive child while urging yourself to remember the love and purpose you left behind in your previous life.

Through-out the song the line "you'll come back; when it's over/when they call you" is a reminder not to fear aging and death or long too much for the safety of childhood or even to mourn those you've lost in life.

Song Meaning:When ever i hear this song i think of an epic adventure that revolves around many complex characters with the central issue of revolution/rebellion.

It started out as a feeling
Which then grew into a hope
Which then turned into a quiet thought
Which then turned into a quiet word

i think these lyrics describe the start of a revolution, where the people of what ever country start off being quiet about their wants and needs, their desires for freedom or a new leader. but things as they usually do dont stay quiet as long as multitudes of people become aware of it.

the next set of lyrics tell of the rebellion become more of a battle/war for freedom and what not.

And then that word grew louder and louder
Until it was a battle cry
    I'll come back
    When you call me
    No need to say goodbye

the chorus describes "everything changing" and that just because it is that doesn't mean its never happened before like an uprising that has occured before in the past.

Now we're back to the beginning
It's just a feeling and no one knows yet
But just because they can't feel it too
Doesn't mean that you have to forget

Let your memories grow stronger and stronger
    Until they're before your eyes
    You'll come back
    When they call you
    No need to say goodbye

these lyrics just descibe the battle being over and everyone going back to normal.

My Interpretation:Whether it was written for the movie or not, i'm going with my own interpretation. This is one of my favorite songs and fits so many situations.

It fits the story of two of my characters' relationship:

They became fast friends after meeting, but were hesitant to show their affection. Things get pretty intense in the story, and someone dies in his place at the end of the year. The next year, she has to leave him to find her father, but she was deceived and he and their friends come to rescue her. They escape and danger only seems to come into their lives more and more often following then. The next year, their relationship is severed and complicated. The following year, he leaves for the war and she is separated from him and stays behind, but has to leave home to seek refuge from an invasion. They become reunited about a month later, and continue to face peril... That's as much as i've written, but it's so amazing! I love it :)
