Young and full of running
Tell me where's that taking me?
Just a great figure eight or a tiny infinity
Love is really nothing
But a dream that keeps waking me
For all of my trying
We still end up dying
How can it be?
[Chorus]
Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me
'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see
I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe
There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me
So young and full of running, all the way to the edge of desire
Steady my breathing, silently screaming,
"I have to have you now"
Wired and I'm tired
Think I'll sleep in my clothes on the floor
Maybe this mattress will spin on its axis and find me on yours
[Chorus:Repeat x2]
Tell me where's that taking me?
Just a great figure eight or a tiny infinity
Love is really nothing
But a dream that keeps waking me
For all of my trying
We still end up dying
How can it be?
[Chorus]
Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me
'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see
I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe
There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me
So young and full of running, all the way to the edge of desire
Steady my breathing, silently screaming,
"I have to have you now"
Wired and I'm tired
Think I'll sleep in my clothes on the floor
Maybe this mattress will spin on its axis and find me on yours
[Chorus:Repeat x2]

Tell me, where is that taking me?
Just a great figure eight or
A tiny infinity.
I think this is about young people and their actions. It's about the parties, relationships, everything they do for fun or their own pleasure. Where does it take you? What kind of purpose does it give a person? Nowhere and none, it just brings you to more partying and pleasure seeking, because it becomes all you know. Your great figure eight.
I think it says something about love as well... basically, you're young, you're naive to a lot of things including yourself and what you truly want, how could you possibly understand love? Which is a good tie-in to our next verse:
Love is really nothing
But a dream that keeps waking me.
For all of my trying,
We still end up dying,
How can it be?
Love is something humans can feel and express, but it's way above our heads... love is everything ideal. The kind of love everyone needs is so pure and beyond our reach, our human attempts at such a feeling, such a bond is nothing but a reminder of how we might never understand something so pure. Something so amazing. No matter how hard he tries to find this sort of new deep perspective on love, he's only a mortal. It's suggesting that only a god can understand love the way he wants to.
Don't say a word just come over and lie here with me.
'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see.
I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe.
There, I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me.
He wants her, whoever she is, to comply. To be his everything. Coming over is her means of accepting him. He's willing and ready to give up everything important to him if it means his passion for her will be reciprocated. He is willing to be something other than himself to accommodate her.
So young and full of running
All the way to the edge of desire
Steady my breathing, silently screaming,
"I have to have you now."
Wired, and I'm tired,
Think I'll sleep in my clothes on the floor.
Maybe this mattress will spin on its axis and find me on yours.
The passion spikes at different moments... these are a few. The moment you're talking to her, the conversation is good but it's not what you want to be saying. You might be subtly complimenting her or looking into her eyes when you're wishing it would convey the silent screams in your head. You want her, and you want so badly for her to know it, and to want you back.
You're laying in bed thinking of nothing but her. Every little interaction. You're growing weary of your brain being relentless in it's train of thought. You feel wired because you can't stop yourself. You haven't seen her in a long enough time that you've run out of things to think. Now all you can do is think about ways to make it work, whether that means simply calling her or a crazy twist of fate.
I have been through this.
-Amy
I'm familiar with this, as I wanted this girl so bad who wouldnt commit...so I decided to go and meet her. She still was a bit funny with me, so I kissed her and we ended at my house. we made love, it was the best thing we both experienced, and she's still with me now.
I am in love, with my best friends sister!
Things are so complicated, i told him the feelings i had for her, and hasnt talked to me since, me and his sister keep telling each other how much me miss each other, but he is in the way, so really...we cant be together!
"I want you so bad, ill go back on the things i believe"
I really do want her, i want her to be mine, i am willing to do anything, and go against what i believe and what is right., just so i can be with her.
"Young and, full of running, tell me where's that taking me."
Im chasing her, im chasing for what makes me happy, im trying my hardest to be with her, but something is still in the way and im not getting anywhere.
"Dont say a word just come over, and lie here with me"
I spend my time trying to make things work for us, i spend hours just thinking of what i can do to make this work and i do it, but it never works and im sick of it. I just want us to be together, without anything getting in the way. I want her to just come over, and not think about any of the problems that we have, and just be together!
This song makes me really sad, as much as this describes my situation, it really doesnt help, i wish things could just work, with no complications, but it cant!
John Mayer is such an inspiration to me, an amazing lyricist!
tell me where is that taking me
just a great figure eight
or a tiny infinity.
In this he says that at one point of time he was very young, lively and carefree but this has just taken him in circles over and over again.
love is really nothing
but a dream that keeps waking me
for all of my trying
we still end up dying
how can it be?
I really don't get this verse so if anyone has any interpretations please do tell me.
don't say a word
just come over and lie here with me
cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see.
In da end of da last verse he asked a question but then he tells her to not bother with it, and just come over, proving that they have either broken up or they're living apart. He kind of threatens her i think bt saying dat if u don't come this place will burn because of my desire (the fire is obviously metaphorical).
I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe
there I just said it
I'm scared you'll forget about me.
he prabably either believed in smthing or had a strong principle in da relationship which cud be from many reasons but he is so very scared of losing her that the believe/principle doesn't matter anymore. for the moment he just wants her damn bad and dat is all dat matters.
so young and full of running
all the way to the edge of desire
steady my breathing
silently screaming
I have to have you now
he is probably thinking about the girl and he describes her a little. she is certanly very young compared to him and she is very lively and full of passion, which takes him to da absolute brim (edge)of desire. don't get offended but i think he gets very turned on after thinking about her so his breath shallows and he screams very softly and in all this desire he has to have her there.
wired and I'm tired
think I'll sleep in my clothes on the floor
baby this mattress will spin on its axis
and find me on yours
now he suddenly feels very tired, tired enough that he can't get off da floor. the 3rd and 4th line have a double meaning for me. 1. he wishes that somehow he would magically get lifted from here and end up in her bed. 2. he says that she is his north (as in no matter what happens in the end he would always end up pointing at her and be in love with her) and he is da compass.
don't say a word
just come over and lie here with me
cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see
I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe
there I just said it
I'm scared you'll forget about me
don't say a word
just come over and lie here with me
cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see
I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe
there I just said it
I'm scared you'll forget about me
mentioned above.
interpretation aside this song to me is da absolute definition of love. he beautifully potrays that if love is a spiritual/mental emotion, it is also a physical need. this song is about calling the girl up at night and da lyrics r what he says to her on the phone. when people ask me why i love john mayer so much i just simply send them a link to this song. this is just my take on the song after being obssesed with it for almost a year. <3 John Mayer <3
It may not make sense to him because he feels like he keeps trying and the relationship ends unsuccessfully. But I feel like the song is about him having a realization and wanting to stop how complicated it's become. He's realized he needs her and just wants it to be simple, no explanation needed.
"Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me
'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see."
-I feel like he means just come over. Don't say anything. Just come be with me and make this night complete because it's killing me that your not here and I can't take being without you anymore.
"I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe
There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me."
-This, to me, means that he'll go back on certain beliefs of his... whether is has to do with not wanting to be single forever anymore because she's just to damn amazing or that he's willing to do things differently, think differently and act differently just to be with her.
One of the greatest songs John Mayer has ever wrote.
