Young and full of runnin'
Tell me where's that takin' me?
Just a great figure eight or a tiny infinity

Love is really nothin'
But a dream that keeps wakin' me
For all of my tryin'
We still end up dyin'
How can it be?

Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me
'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everythin' I see
I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe
There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me

So young and full of runnin', all the way to the edge of desire
Steady my breathing, silently screaming
"I have to have you now"
Wired and I'm tired
Think I'll sleep in my clothes on the floor
Maybe this mattress will spin on its axis and find me on yours

Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me
'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everythin' I see
I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe
There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me

Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me
'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everythin' I see
I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe
There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me

"Young and full of running Tell me where's that taking me? Just a great figure 8 or a tiny infinity" -I think what he's saying in these lines is that he's been running away from love and feels that hasn't taken him anywhere. When referring to a great figure 8 he means he's just basically going in circles, going nowhere. The tiny infinity he is talking about a sideways 8, which sybolizes infinity when applying it to math.

"For all of my trying You still end up dying How can it be?" -As for this line, i believe it means that no matter how hard he tries in the relationship it still doesn't work out. And he doesn't understand why.

"I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe" -I find meaning in this line from personal experience: He wants her so bad that he'll go back on his own rules, morals, values, etc. just to be with here. You can understand this feeling if you've ever been passionately in love with someone, whether that love is good or bad,it is still full of passion.

    Hope this helps!

*most of what I've read before this seems really off to me** Look, this song is not about your girlfriend/boyfriend of 3 months. This song is all about losing that one person who touched your heart in a way nobody else has. When you lose a love that strong it hurts beyond anything else in the world. To me, this song is all about love, fear, and pride. He wants to be with this person more than anything else in the world but time has created separation and they now have their own lives...i get the distinct sense that there is something standing in the way...an argument, something that happened, maybe someone lied about something or whatever it is, his armor is on but this song is his true feeling deep down in his heart pouring out. Best way to explain is below line by line:

Young and full of running Tell me where's that taking me? Just a great figure 8 or a tiny infinity

**this was explained well above, hes saying i've tried to run away from this and move on but I can't..nobody else makes me feel the way you do and I am scared of the future..what if I never find that same feeling again?***

Love is really nothing But a dream that keeps waking me For all of my trying You still end up dying How can it be?

frustration with this endless battle....he can put all the armor on he wants and try to move on but when all distractions are out of the way he can't sleep because he's missing what he truly thinks/fears is his other half

Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me 'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me

this part is incredible...so much feeling. This is the cry deep within his heart begging her to just come over and let everything that happened die if only for a few moments so that they can just lay together and be whole again. His frustration and even anger with what happened is too much to bear all the time. The last 2 lines are really key. "I'll go back on the things I believe" I think this is really his way of saying I love you so much I'll throw away my pride and everything else in the world if i can just hold you then nothing else matters. This to me is the core of the song....loving someone more than yourself or anything else is that kind of love that truly breaks your heart. "Im scared you'll forget about me" he's saying he can't get over her and he's terrified at the idea of her moving on and living her own life being happy...basically he thinks about her so much that it would wreck his heart if she didn't think about him that way at all

So young and full of running, all the way to the edge of desire Steady my breathing, silently screaming, "I have to have you now" Wired and I'm tired Think I'll sleep in my clothes on the floor Maybe this mattress will spin on its axis and find me on yours steady my breathing, silently screaming...he's struggling trying to move on and be ok but inside he's dieing. Maybe this mattress will spin on its axis and find me on yours....i think this is his way of expressing his wish that he could go back through time and be in her bed cuddling and feel whole again

The "figure eight" "tiny infinity" is basically his way of saying I have tried to live without you and move on like everyone told me to but as hard as i try when all the lights shut off and I am in bed all I can think about is you.

Best song on the album!! This is truly one of my favorite songs by John Mayer..It is simply one of those that makes me feel completely different by hearing it. Lyrically beautiful. I love songs that have you trying to decipher their meanings. This is how I interpret the song...which might be completely wrong, but its what I feel when I hear it.

"Just a great figure 8 or tiny infinity" -I think he might mean figure 8 in relation to a woman's body..He might mean "is this just another girl or a love that could be never ending"..HOWEVER, i really like zach90's interpretation of the line..his seems more logical.

"Don't say a word just come over, and lie here with me" -That line gets me every time it comes out in the song!!..Describes perfectly how one feels when they really miss someone..It's simple..nothing to try to comprehend..very straightforward.

"I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe. There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me" -He probably means nothing matters to him. He unconditionally loves this person. He'll throw away everything he has ever believed in to desperately have her. He is scared that she will forget about him so he will do anything to have her.

"Maybe this mattress will spin on it's axis and find me on yours" -He is hoping that he will just magically end up in the same bed with her. He longs to be with her.

This song is full of emotion and very relatable to alot of people. I think he really nailed it with this one! I'm sure it will sound AMAZING live!!

My favorite off of Battle Studies.

Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me 'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me

We've all been at this point. Despite whats been going wrong, just having that person's presence would make everything feel better. You're desperate to have them back in your life--fully, so much so that you'd take back every action and every word you said that made it all so difficult in the first place. Lets face it, the thing that scares us the most is having that one person who manages to pull every string in your heart forget you.

get ready for my in depth analysis.

"Young and full of running. Tell me where's that taking me? Just a great figure 8 or a tiny infinity" -I think this is talking about when we're young and just have everything ahead of us... and we can just keep on running through life and time but we don't know where it's taking us and we just keep running in a figure 8 forever, for infinity.

"Love is really nothing, But a dream that keeps waking me. For all of my trying, You still end up dying. How can it be?" -This is just talking about dreaming of finding love but how he hasn't yet and he keeps waking up from these dreams of love (ending relationships) but no matter how hard you try, the love dies...

"Don't say a word, just come over and lie here with me. 'Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see. I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe. There I just said it, I'm scared you'll forget about me" -In the midst of these failing dreams of love, you still feel the need for that person. It doesn't matter how wrong it is you just want them to come over and lay with you because you're so angry/hurt/upset you just hate everything and only that person will make it better because you just want them back. You want them so bad it doesn't matter how wrong it may be to you or everyone else, you'll go back on it, you'll compromise your beliefs for that one time... and it all boils down to just being scared to be alone and be forgotten about when you've had someone for so long.

"So young and full of running, all the way to the edge of desire. Steady my breathing, silently screaming, "I have to have you now." Wired and I'm tired. Think I'll sleep in my clothes on the floor. Maybe this mattress will spin on its axis and find me on yours..." -This is talking about how bad you want that person physically. We're young and running all the way to the edge of desire... the desire for physical love... and we keep skirting the edge more and more throughout our relationships, wanting and needing it more and more. There comes a moment, when you're with someone, that you have to control your want or desire even though your insides are screaming at you to make love. I think this is also told in the retrospective thought of after a relationship being over, and laying in bed alone and still feeling that need that you had at the beginning before you had each other. Because of this, there are nights where you're so tired yet so awake b/c you need that person that you just feel like sleeping on the floor b/c you don't want to feel alone in the bed. and you just wish that the mattress could "spin on its axis" and plop you right down in bed with the person you want to be with...

-all in all i think the song is about missing the person you loved/still love in a relationship that you know is wrong. it doesn't really matter knowing it's wrong if you still feel it and you still want it and still need it mentally, physically, and emotionally. You're sick of waiting for that love that you dream about, and even though you know it's wrong, you just want the happiness you had in your previous relationship back, even if it goes against some of the things you believe.

i think this song is a BEAUTIFUL song. and a song most anyone who's been in love can relate to. it's my personal favorite on this new album.

Best song on Battle Studies. To me, the song is about young love, or simply all the emotions that run deep when you're lost in love - how the tiniest things seem immense; how the hours feel like days; and when it's over, it's the end of the world.

This is the kind of song that could make you cry or make you really happy. Yesterday it made me happy, today it makes me want to cry. Brilliant.

To me, this song is about that girl that is a good "friend" and over time you develop more and more feelings for, and you're dying to tell her how you really feel, but once you do, for better or worse, things will never be the same. It's like he's been dying to to tell her and and finally can't take it anymore and just takes a leap of faith and says "there I just said it", now what...

"Don't say a word just come over and lie here with me Cause I'm just about to set fire to everything I see.

I want you so bad I'll go back on the things I believe. There I just said it. I'm scared you'll forget about me"

At least that's what I hear, probably because these ae the exact feelings I'm going through...

I like that interpretation actually. The feeling of doubt and not knowing if your course is the right course to take is a rough one. Maybe like a grown up version of why georgia.

Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
