I am just a new boy
Stranger in this town
Where are all the good times?
Who's gonna show this stranger around?
Ooh, I need a dirty woman
Ooh, I need a dirty girl

Will some woman in this desert land
Make me feel like a real man?
Take this rock and roll refugee
Ooh, baby set me free

Ooh, I need a dirty woman
Ooh, I need a dirty girl

Ooh, I need a dirty woman
Ooh, I need a dirty girl

Hello?
Yes, a collect call for Mrs. Floyd from Mister Floyd
Will you accept the charges from United States?

Oh, he hung up, that's your residence, right? I wonder why he hung up?
Is there supposed to be someone else there besides your wife there to answer?

Hello?
This is United States calling, are we reaching
See he keeps hanging up, and it's a man answering

It also fits into the storyline of the wall -- the young isolated artist has to turn to some floozy b/c his wife is in bed with another man

This song isn't simply Pink heading to a new town and indulging in sex with some random groupie. The album tells a story, and at this point Pink is trying to fill in the "empty space" left behind from his wife leaving him(note the phone call where his wife is with another man) This technique proves ineffective as shown in the next song "One of my turns"

Personally I think that this song shows young pink, not having had proper guidance in his life and having little to no life experience outside of his protected comfort zone, looking for a lady to fills his emptiness (which is already wrong) , specifically looking for a lady that fits the requirements of his desires.

only to find out later (now married, with the epithet mr. and mrs.) that the wild and dirty lady of his naive desires, ended up doing him dirty in the long run by having an affair.

had he had proper guidance, he would have known that filling his emptiness comes from the inside, not from someone else on the outside. he also wouldve picked a lady he could trust, a clean lady if you will, that wouldnt end up doing him dirty, but alas, the blind and naive wee young lad had to learn the hard way.

this is exactly why parents shouldnt shelter their children and allow them to fail, make mistakes and learn from them on their own, otherwise they end up in situations like these.

It is a brazen and honest lok at a rock stars reluctant embrace of grouie culture. The guitar work is outstanding.

this song makes me swoon for some reason. my best friend always envisions herself smoking pot to this song and passing the pipe around or something. she wants to do that.

Kafziel, I think you're wrong about something - Pink doesn't realize that empty sex won't help him. He's just turning to whatever he can find to distract himself, trying to forget his troubles. "Would your next thought be 'I need a dirty woman'?" His would be - or alcohol or drugs etc.

I also disagree with Kafziel. The women arent empty spaces at all. They are bricks in the wall, just another thing in life that causes him to put up this protective boundary around himself. Hence the line "How can I complete the wall in the previous song" just as it breaks into this. This is his way of distancing himself further from his family and his emotions, by sleeping with women he doesn't care about instead of spending time with his wife, therefore he's completing the wall. You aren't thinking within the context of the wall.

by far my favorite Floyd song. Excellent song, excellent song, but you really have to listen to Empty Spaces before you listen to it to get the whole effect.

I agree entirely with what mahakala said.. I couldn't exactly articulate what I wanted to say, but yes. picking up groupies/"dirty" women is just one way to distract him from the thought of his wife with another man, and a way to keep adding bricks to the wall.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
