(Turn around) Every now and then I get a little bit lonely
And you're never coming 'round
(Turn around) Every now and then I get a little bit tired
Of listening to the sound of my tears
(Turn around) Every now and then I get a little bit nervous
That the best of all the years have gone by
(Turn around) Every now and then I get a little bit terrified
And then I see the look in your eyes
(Turn around, bright eyes) Every now and then I fall apart
(Turn around, bright eyes) Every now and then I fall apart
And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right
'Cause we'll never be wrong
Together we can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time (all of the time)
I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
I really need you tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart
(Turn around, bright eyes) Every now and then I fall apart
(Turn around, bright eyes) Every now and then I fall apart
And I need you now tonight (and I need you now)
And I need you more than ever
And if you only hold me tight (if you only)
We'll be holding on forever
And we'll only be making it right (and we'll never)
'Cause we'll never be wrong
Together we can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time (all of the time)

I dont know why people think this is a sad song. Its a very uplifting song if you really read the lyrics. Its about a woman who is past her prime and shes "falling apart" because of it but her only comfort is knowing her man still loves her completely. Hence "your love is a total eclipse of the heart" When she starts losing it "or falling apart" he tells her "turn around" and she knows if she does he'll make her feel better. Thats why she says "i really need you tonight, forevers gonna start tonight." This is a beautiful LOVE song
@Jon112384 I agree. This is a great love song. To me it sounds like she is depressed, and her partner is the best comfort she has because she knows no matter what he loves her.

I love this song. (though, I personally prefer the cover by the Protomen to the original.)
@Jon112384 I agree. This song is uplifting and a beautiful love song! I could listen to this song all day, however I personally prefer the cover by Sleeping at Last
@Jon112384 It is written in the Key of A minor. Minor modes are naturally sad in nature/ Major are usually snappy, and Happy. Minor = Sad, Major = Happy Capiche?
@Jon112384 - This comment flies in the face of the top-rated comment about this being based on the relationship between Catherine and Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights.

@ScribbledInk1975 You're wrong. Arrangement of the chords determines whether a song or composed piece of music attain a sad or happy sound, and solely that, not the key itself. Natural minor chords in the minor key make it easier to make the song sad, but again, you can arrange the music in a piece any way. Could You Be Loved by Bob Marley is an easy example of minor key that isn't sad. Wake Me Up When Sept Ends by Green Day is an easy example of major key that's sad.
And in the context of lyrics, lyrics often determine whether a song is happy or sad, regardless of the chords used. Despite its cheerful, groovy sound, Pumped Up Kicks is absolutely NOT a happy song, wouldn't you agree?
