Signs the signs invisible
Trace the trail and follow you wherever you will lead me
To the heart of me and your spilling grief
To answer to a God who never answers you

Feathernest invest and gain
Shiny brass is milk and grain
And yours is to just sustain and chip away with haste
Treasure time and savour taste

And all the while you quietly crave and crave
The day is done
Time you've made has come and gone
Stay asleep now

Everyone into position
Everyone into their place
Grow to grow at snail's pace
Like carnivores at grace

Feed to feed and building face
Pay to play and find a place.

Even though these lyrics are depressing and leave me feelin' kind of hopeless, this song is epic and beautiful in every way. The live version that I've been watching on YouTube made me cry like a baby the first few times that I watched it. Jeez. It kind of sucks to realize that we're all just meat scratching for the same material goals.......only to suffer the same pitiful fate...death. No wonder peeps believe in God. What else have we got to keep us sane? That makes it extra tough to not have any beliefs or faith. This song is definitely a wake-up call, whether you think it's positive or negative. Maybe I would rather "stay asleep" 'cause ignorance is bliss. We're all gonna' rot with nothing to show for it.

BEST song Oceansize has ever made. it's perfect. such a brilliant, beautiful climax to the album. it really makes the album great. definitely the best. now what does it mean? i have no idea. but it does the role of the climax to the song - a lullaby, a finishing piece, the last brushstroke on the painting. it's a climax and a victorious ode to finding one's place.

I agree, this song is brilliant.

To me it's like it's talking to someone who has just died, reflecting on what they did in their life and what their life meant. 'Feathernest, invest and gain, shiny brass (money) is milk and grain, and yours is to just sustain'...these words are about how all our lives we fight over money, trying to just keep our heads above water. 'And all the while you quietly crave and crave - the day is done. The time you've made has come and gone. Stay asleep now.'...these words are just heartbreaking. It's like the subject of the song has spent his life just trying to survive, all the while desperate for something more, and now at the end he finds nothing. His time is gone, and all he can do now is sleep. 'Everyone into position, everyone into their place, grow to grow at snail's pace'...I'm more confused about this and the rest of the song but it sounds like it refers to the position of everyone in society as a cog in a very large machine. We grow that the machine may grow, but only at a snail's pace.

    Amazing. A truly beautiful song.

Very reminiscent of Yes. Oceansize are showing their true prog colours in this song, which is by no means a bad thing.

Most of the album seems to be a look into religion and how people blindly follow it, the line 'spilling grief to answer to a God who never answers you' is the most obviously antagonistic. The song is reminiscent of church organ music, I guess a fitting irony.

It's got that climactic finale feel to it. There's a sense of joy in the music, a cheeky kind of grace. Sadly, it ends a wonderful album. Why'd the album have to end? That's not nice.

I love how desperate and lonely Oceansize can make their riffs. So good.

I find it quite amusing that the end of the song is very similar to the end of Goodbye to th factory by ALoha-similar chord progression, organ and even a similar theme.Well i guess the great ideas tend to reappear from time to time:D.Check it out -both are great songs!

I think that this song is about the futility of believing in a supreme being or "God", and how we pray and wish for them to do all these things for us, but it doesn't really change anything and we have to live our own life, not some semblance of what a so-called "Supreme Being" or "Creator-of-All" wants us to, the line "Shiny brass is milk and grain" refers to the fact that everyones life is revolved around money and how it is basically our main life source.econd half of the song refers to someone who is dying, and has fulfilled their life, they sink into their rightful position in the world and finally die. The ending lines refer to the fact that everyone scrambles to gain money and fame in society, but in the end it all doesn't matter.

Is there a heaven,is there a hell.... I don't know, but it sure was fun while it lasted...

    My Opinion

'Everyone into position Everyone into their place'

Does it interest anyone else this line from the opening track of the album the Charm Offensive appears on the last track? I've no idea if it means anything or is just a coincidence. Interesting though.

Beautiful song though. No idea what it means. But it's just amazing to listen too without thinking, just letting the music wash over you.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
