Crowded House – Don't Dream It's Over Lyrics 21 years ago
He is torn between the life he knew and the one he's trying to create - and even though the future is very unclear, it still looks like freedom compare to the very recent past. A deluge of new experiences accompanies this new freedom, and even though he can't be everywhere at once, he must try to live as much as humanly possible. She is one of these new experiences, and he's urging her to stick with him and not give up, as they discover this new life together. Obstacles are out there, but with patience, love, and the combined insight of two people from different worlds, these can be overcome. He is suspicious of (for just one example) the 80s yuppishness all around them, to the point where he'd rather be poor than lose his soul, and they both know there are ways to escape to a better place, if only for a while. Things are looking up each day, and though ghosts still hang over their heads, nothing can really take away their freedom, not the lack of money or anything else, if they just keep believing in each other and all the good in life.

Stevie Nicks – I Sing For The Things Lyrics 21 years ago
It's fairly straightforward...sung by a person who might seem to have all the material goods anyone could desire - but Stevie's songs are very emotional and truly come from the heart. I LOVE the line about "living on dreams and chains" - telling us how much she still loves the classic Mac songs like "Dreams" and "The Chain."

10cc – I'm Not In Love Lyrics 22 years ago
Used to fall asleep with the radio on and would wake up just before the "big boys don't cry" section- it felt like I was in a dream, standing outside, looking up into a starry sky, when a woman's voice starts to whisper..."big boys don't cry..." Some foolish, immature people make fun of this song, but my love for it has grown stronger and stronger over the last 20-some years since I first heard it. Of course, the guy really does love her and just won't admit it...pictures of her constantly fill his mind, it's driving him crazy. The "Rework Of Art" mix is fantastic too, with them whispering to each other at the end, only serves to enhance the beauty of the images this song brings to mind. Someday I want to make a video for it, using colored-pencil sketches which change every line. I've also thought about a rotoscope effect as in A-ha's Take on Me video. Even have the perfect woman picked out, if she'll model for it.

Toto – Pamela Lyrics 22 years ago
Oh man! Did this song ever fit my life when it came out. I was going crazy over an unrequited love interest who happened to be named Pamela. We were only separated by three years in age, but were looking for different things, each with good reasons. Getting to the song, I think this is pretty much straightforward; he wants the relationship to be more than she does, feels much more than she does, what I DON'T get is how he seems to be implying that she's jealous...if anything, I think he is (rightfully) jealous of her. She seems to not want anything serious between them, he's saying "wanting EVERY PART OF YOU is not a crime."
Well, that's just MHO of what this song means, of course it was greatly influenced by what was happening to me at the time. Mary's Prayer by Danny Wilson was out at roughly the same time, and that song can bring back even more emotion than this one (especially when watching the video), but I digress.

A-Ha – Take On Me Lyrics 22 years ago
Reminds me of that golden age of music and videos when this song came out. Also someone I left behind when I moved back home. Of course, I promised to write to her and of course, it never happened - and when I made it back almost a year later, she was long gone. Funny how life can make even the most optimistic among us want to cry sometimes. Strangely, I didn't realize just how great this song was until years later!
