Patty Griffin – Long Ride Home Lyrics 11 months ago
I honestly can not get away from a women’s perspective….maybe because Patti owns it with her voice. But the comments on the limousine seem feminine….the throwing of the rose, and I am not dissuaded by the “tiny hand” lyric….could represent so much figuratively in my eyes. And I do not jump to bad marriage for “40 year of laying in same bed, and things you wish you had never said…..”. I love my wife very deeply, and in our almost 30 years….we have possibly been each others greatest torments as well as each others bravest saviors….I personally think of us as a Union forged in the fire of time. But regrets I would like to believe are present in any union of said length. And on that “long ride home”, I know most looking back on a shared past will probably have a lot to think about on that long ride home. But again, so many great points of view….wish I had been on this thread when it was actively discussed.

The song takes me to dark, beautiful places. Everyone has such wonderful points and valid reasons behind all. I think one could still hear it from a women’s perspective as well…..shiny, clean car….and who’s lost love’s hand would not appear tiny within the context of death….shows a vulnerability of being human to me. But the lyrics and Pattis voice…..amazing in either context. Very nice to share and read such insightful comments on a very cathartic song.
