I think this song could have two interpretations, as most JF songs do, literal and metaphorical. Literally, its about a girl who loves him and guides him through depression, mental troubles etc and he wouldnt have made it without her, the most likely alternative being suicide or OD. Metaphorically, and more appropriately, I think it's about heroin, the 'she/her'. Skipping the background on JF He'll know 'her' a mile away, whether by sight, weight, familiarity whatever, an addict (former or current) knows their drugs 'She' will be there for him when he's facing life and all its shit it throws at him and he'll come to 'her'for comfort or numbing, even if he is doing his best to keep his mind in line. It's blood and a flood of dopamine And yes, she will most definitely take you through the gate, to death. Living in the flower (poppy flower) you feel like 'she' is a part of you and you phtsically cannot live without her (withdrawl) The one place 'she' stays in is the needle/baggy/whatever hiding place/stash box you put her in, and she will grow with you as your tolerance for her grows I feel like slow is fast line is referring to altered time perception while using, but I've noticed this structure in a ton of his songs (ex: "Nothing can never become something" After the Ending) and I'm not sure what the name if this rhetorical device is, or if it has a name or is based on structure or whatever And the feeling comes to life in you and if you OD, you wont know because of the pleasure (I'm not sure about this I've never used heroim and I don't intend to find out if it feels pleasureable while you OD) The 'her' in the last line may also be still referring to heroin or the angel of death as he sees her coming for him, a mile away. And he pain will suddenly be a life away, gone, as he is dead. |
