Rent – Without You Lyrics 9 years ago
The song is saying that life goes on without you. Seasons change, people fall in and out of love, there is life and death. But that doesn't mean that life has to be that way

98 Mute – Don't Lyrics 9 years ago
I am new to this site, and have had the pleasure of having this be the first journal entry that I seen here. my apologies for me seeing it so many years later.
All that I can really say is that I am sorry. While this happened in the past, the now is based on the past. I guess I just want to say that I am sorry that this happened to you, and if you ever see this, know that I am here if you ever want to talk.
Lots of Love,
Mandy

Disney's Frozen – For the First Time in Forever Reprise Lyrics 9 years ago
I'm going to start out by saying that I am basically proud of Disney for coming out with a movie with a character, Elsa, as a metaphor for depression. As one currently suffering depression, I can understand Elsa on different levels than others can.
Now, with my interpretation, please think of Elsa's powers as depression instead.

"You don't have to protect me, I'm not afraid!
Please don't shut me out again
Please don't slam the door
You don't have to keep your distance anymore"

Anna knows about Elsa's depression, but insists that she [Anna] can lose her sister behind a barrier anymore.

"'Cause for the first time in forever
I finally understand
For the first time in forever
We can fix this hand in hand
We can head down this mountain together!
You don't have to live in fear
'Cause for the first time in forever
I will be right here"

It is Anna's belief that she can help Elsa beat this sadness, this guilt inside of her. Anna realizes the fear that Elsa is concealing, and not feeling, and is offering her support as a sister and friend.

[Elsa]
"Anna,
Please go back home
Your life awaits
Go enjoy the sun and open up the gates
[Anna]
Yeah, but-
[Elsa]
I know!
You mean well, but leave me be
Yes I'm alone but I'm alone and free!
Just stay away and you'll be safe from me"

Elsa is saying that she doesn't want anyone else to get hurt (emotionally) because of her, so she's almost warning Anna to get away before something happens.

[Anna] "Actually we're not
[Elsa] What do you mean you're not?
[Anna] I get the feeling you don't know
[Elsa] What do I not know?
[Anna] Arendelle's in deep deep deep deep...
Snow
[Elsa] What?
[Anna] You've kind of set off an eternal winter... everywhere
[Elsa] Everywhere?
[Anna] It's okay, you can just unfreeze it!
[Elsa] No I can't, I- I don't know how!"

I think that if Anna would've said this a bit differently, she could've avoided turning into ice, as this is what is almost Elsa's trigger. Elsa sees that she has done damage to people's lives, and this is what really makes her decide to stay locked away, yet Anna is still persistent.

Okay, Let's break the Duet into two parts. First Anna, then Elsa.

[Anna] You don't have to be afraid
We can work this out together
We'll reverse the storm you made
Don't panic!
We'll make the sun shine bright
We can face this thing together!
We can change this winter weather!
And everything will be alright...

Anna knows that her sister is afraid. Sisters know that kind of thing. But Anna keeps trying to change Elsa's mind. While Elsa only believes that she can harm people, Anna is looking at the side of Elsa that she herself cannot see. The caring, loving side. What really gets me is when Anna said, "Don't panic". Anna sees that fear makes it worse, and wants to avoid anything bad.

[Elsa]
Oh
I'm such a fool, I can't be free!
There's no escape from the storm inside of me
I can't control the curse
Oh, Anna please you'll only make it worse!
There's so much fear!
You're not safe here!
No
I-I-I-I-I-I-I
I CAN'T!

Now, I always cry at this part, because I can relate. Elsa refers to depression as a curse, and curses are hard to get rid of. Earlier, when Elsa says that she is free, she means that she was free to be herself without the fear of not being accepted or hurting others. Now that Anna's here, Elsa sees that she is not free, she still has as much fear as when she left. She feels that other people will make her symptoms heighten, and can't handle that.

The Fray – How To Save A Life Lyrics 9 years ago
I really agree with this. The first time I heard this, I immediately thought of someone trying to talk someone else out of suicide, I'm glad someone else thought the same way that I did
