I know apparently this is about Dave leaving but it can be interpreted differently. Once, listening to this song after i'd known it for a few days i just randomly really wanted to cry for no reason. I think that that he could be singing to someone who has lost someone and they regret not being better to that person whilst they were still alive. The person singing is trying to make them feel better. So in the first verse he says "time passes by, direction unknown" This kinda says that you live life not knowing whats going to happen next. And where your gonna end up. Then "You've left us now, but we're not alone" is addressing the person who;s dead and they're saying that nobody's alone even when they're regretful and upset. "Before you know it, your cups overflown" Is saying that sometimes things can get out of hand and this can hapen quicker than you first think. "you measure no-one that i've ever known" Is just saying to the person that they're very strong and have a lot going for them eventhough they're down and feel like nothing good can come out of this. The chorus i find is a very re-assuring set of lyrics for the person they're speaking to. They are saying that "It's quite alright". "Good-bye for now" is a re-assuring line of speech as it kinda indicates that the person is not gone forever. "Just look up to the stars and believe who you are" the stars for me are shown as a symbol for the person so they can remember that the dead person is still with them in the stars and when they remember that person they can remember that they can still fix what they did in the past by moving on trying to be a better person. "We always knew that'd it come to this" Showing that maybe the death was expected and that maybe the person could've tried to be a better person. "Matters of heart are hard to address" saying that its hard to explain and they know its hard to go through what they're going through right now. And its even harder when the persons heart is "full of emptiness" because when you try to help people who are depressed it can be very difficult when it seems that all hope is gone. i dont know whether i explained it very well but thats how interpret the song :) |
