This song is definitely about sex. Throughout the song, she intermingles religious imagery with sexual innuendos: "I'm already on my knees", etc. She also compares the man she is having sex with to Jesus and communion ("this is his body, this is his love"). The speaker knows that what she wants is wrong by social/religious standards ("selfish prayers") but she is not ashamed to give in to her temptation, and doesn't feel the need to absolve herself for her sins. Through the juxtaposition of sex and Christianity she might be commenting on an alternative type of spirituality in the act of sex itself. |
