Foster the People – Pumped Up Kicks Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Robert is an abused neglected older teen who found daddys gun and isn't gonna take anyones stuff any longe. So he's "cowboying up". Which is to mean, he's got a 6 shooter, he's done w/the fake trendy kids, you cannot outrun a gun or bullet. Dad is late home from work, again, drunk, w/a surprise, which is really no surprise becuase Robert is beat frequently. Dinner on ice, oh yea, Roberts serving up Dad real well, bang bang... This next part...[I've waited for a long time Yeah, the slight of my hand is now a quick pull trigger I reason with my cigarette And say your hair's on fire You must have lost your wits, yeah] Back to the reference to the box w/other fun things. Perhaps a bag and a pack of rolling papers because he's "reasoning" w/his cigarette and telling his father his hair is on fire, dad believes him. Dad could also be a meth user, they tend to be ultra paranoid. Regardless, this is a very cool song that I love. :) |

For the most part, I do believe you are spot on. Here's some of my take on it. This part..."Yeah, he found a six-shooter gun In his dad's closet hidden in a box of fun things And I don't even know what But he's coming for you, yeah, he's coming for you" He found his dads gun, in a box along with other stuff that you have fun with, but he's keeping it to himself, it's his secret. This next part I find interesting... I reason with my cigarette And say your hair's on fire You must have lost your wits, yeah I don't think it's a tobacco cigarette, but a cannabis cigarette, a.k.a joint. since the first verse speaks of a "rolled cigarette." |
