Your interpretation made me cry... This is the first Xiu Xiu song which I heard about 3 years ago and loved it immediately and completely, from the first to the last sound. I fell in love with this band, but at the same time I fell in love with the person who got me acquainted with Xiu Xiu by sending The Fox & The Rabbit. At that time I didn't care much for the meaning of this song though - all I got was "I am waiting here for you", sounding so hopeful at the beginning of my infatuation... I had been keeping silence for the next 2,5 years, hiding my feelings, because I wasn't sure that it's reciprocal and above all 'cause I'd already had a boyfriend. So we - me and that Xiu Xiu fan if I may call him so (even though it's not fully correct)had been writing each other for a couple of years, meeting so rarely (for we live in different cities) and only about half a year ago revealed how a strong crush we had on each other. There, the next chapter of this story starts: "violently happy" at its very beginning, I eventually became more and more messed up with the quick and inexplicable changes of his mood, his estrangement showing up more and more often... He was hurting me so much without even noticing... And at last weekend it was so painful to see him indifferent, that I decided: I just can't take it anymore. Now the song which was the start of this unhappy story opened to me fron another angle: I realised that it fits with our situation so well, almost like another adorable Xiu Xiu song - Bunny Gamer. I was really waiting and waiting for his messages so long, saying myself to stop believing he could change - but still hoping so stupidly. I couldn't do anything with my obsession. He truly had a control over me, and when he seemed to care sometimes it really was a kind of "sadistic joy", not a real feeling. Even though all of this started so fantastic and promising, it ended up like hell for me - and he still doesn't care... Sad, sad irony! Next week we are going to Xiu Xiu concert: me - for the first time, he - for the second (by the way, he send me this song after the first concert). God, how I waited this for years and how it turned out... PS: "I like people who are wrong/Сould you then feel like I do?" are one of my favourite lines ever. In my opinion, it can be a kind of epigraph to all Xiu Xiu's work. |

| I like the way Jamie sings: "Enjoy life, enjoy life, enjoy this life," - the context makes the sense of these lines opposite to its literal meaning, brings the dramatic motif. This device's quite often used in Xiu Xiu songs, for example, in one of my favourite lines ever from Bog People: "There will always be a headless neck, there will always be hapiness". As for me, it's not only about this world's morbidness and cruelty, but also about its breadth. | |
