I absolutely love the history behind this song. The whole thing with Jesse Lacey and the cheating and everything. You can tell that John feels bad though, because in between all the screaming and everything, it seems like he misses Jesse. Love this song and Seventy Times 7 both. |

| One of my favourite JM songs. It's so beautiful. I don't appreciate life very much myself but I still love this song anyway. Reminds me of his journey through cancer. This is supposed to be a Christmas song and he fully recovered from cancer in late August 2005 so I think this song sort of signified the end of that chapter of his life (although I believe the real end of the chapter was after he finished writing The Glass Passenger because he stated that the third JM album will be a fresh start - no more cancer references). | |

Agreed! What gets ME off? This song. lol Andrew McMahon writing a song about sex... it's hilarious. When I first saw the title, I was like, gosh, this is gonna be good. But somehow, he managed to make it beautiful, of course. It's Andrew. There's beauty in everything he does. :) |

He wrote it for a friend. Andrew's life has been full of extraordinary coincidences. He started playing the piano and writing music when he was a kid after his uncle died of leukemia. He wrote Dear Jack for, and I'm not too sure about this, a friend who had leukemia or who's little brother had leukemia. Then a few months later Andrew himself was diagnosed of leukemia. |

Are we sure that Jack's the little kid who got cancer? I watched Andrew's documentary, also named Dear Jack, and towards the end of the film, the narrator said, "Present at Andrew's wedding was his dear friend, Jack". And there was a picture displayed of a guy who looked about Andrew's age. As far as I know, Jack's a friend who had a little brother who died of leukemia. Hope to have this confirmed! |

I've had this song on my laptop for ages but I really only listen to Taylor when I'm feeling happy and in love. I tend to ignore the negative songs. This song, however, randomly came on last night when I was thinking about a guy I used to know who really hurt me and, at that moment, I was really glad that Taylor wrote this song because it made me realise just how much he hurt me and how difficult it was for me to get through that period of my life and get over him. In a way, I felt like Taylor was reminding me that 'he wasn't sorry', and I appreciate that because I was so close to picking up the phone and calling him, and that would've been a big mistake. |

| The lyrics of this song don't stir much in me but it's beautiful nonetheless. Everything Andrew writes and sing is truly amazing. I love how this song is a little different from the usual JM stuff. It's slightly upbeat and I love how his voice sounds in it. I like listening to it in the morning, always feels like a start to a great day! | |

I guess he meant that he has friends, but because they lie, can they really be considered friends? I love this song, I can really relate to it. I go through a difficult phase in my life, I think I can rely on my friends, but they just lie to me. And it sucks. |

I love that line. To me, it means that everyone out there knows that we're living in some sort of a mirage, a 'pop song', but no one wants to be the first one to stand up and say it, everyone just 'sings along', because it's easier that way. To me, this song is about succumbing to the pressure that society places upon us, to 'washing t-shirts after each individual use'. My favourite JM song, hands down. |
