I always thought this song was a little out of place for the album, then I remembered that classic contest, Content vs. Context. Context wins. Then it dawned on me. Stop trying so hard to figure it out what's there, sit down and enjoy was happening in the here (or rather, the hear). |

I think that "hacked away plateau" is saying there can't be any love where there is no difficulty. Climbing a mountain is a hard, arduous undertaking that would be considerably easy if halfway up it flattened out into a plateau. What Callahan's saying essentially, is that love can't exist without struggle. |

"She's been disappeared for years, today she finally came back." When she shows up in the church she has finally hit her bottom. The line, "Holly was a hoodrat, and now you finally know that" is an acceptance of who/where she's been, but that's not who she's going to be anymore as she "walks on back" to who she used to be. It's a happy ending because she's finally self-aware, and who doesn't love a good redemption story? |

There's a lot of good points of view here. I've always thought this song was saying, "When you've had the best, you don't need the rest." At which point, I guess you got to retire your jersey and maybe turn a-sexual like you're Morrissey or somebody. Seems unfair. |

The speech at the beginning enhances the whole song, but especially the back half to the end. The guitars accompany the rally cry ending with unbridled moxie that gives the song a unique patriotic feeling. If that doesn't get you excited, you were probably born in Canada. |

The first time I heard this song, I had two immediate reactions to the phrase "dance yourself clean." My first thought was of dancing the drugs right out of your system, and not stopping until sobriety. The second, in essence, is the purging of that which is troublesome via dance. No worries, just dance. Real Hakuna Matata, huh? |
