Elton John – Rocket Man Lyrics | 8 months ago |
Perhaps this is an overly simple or even downright incorrect explanation of this song but here goes. To me, this song is about either cocaine addiction or cocaine abuse. Two or three lines (best pun ever) make me think this. " And I'm gonna be high as a kite by then " - No explanation needed for this one. "And I think it's gonna be a long, long time 'Til touch down brings me round again to find I'm not the man they think I am at home" Nobody realises he's a junkie yet. Touch down really means coming down. I very much doubt this song was written as a homage to a 9-5 employee at NASA. |
Sonic Youth – Nevermind (What Was It Anyway) Lyrics | 10 months ago |
I have absolutely no idea what this is supposed to be about. |
Suzanne Vega – Marlene On The Wall Lyrics | 1 year ago |
In addition to the physical violence aspect I've also felt that the line "But the only soldier now is me. I'm fighting things I cannot see" relates to the mental health impact of the abuse that she has endured. |
Suzanne Vega – Marlene On The Wall Lyrics | 1 year ago |
For me, this song has always been about the victim of a physically violent partner. |
Visage – Fade To Grey Lyrics | 1 year ago |
@[MrLongrove:43171] I'd forgotten all about that but you're absolutely correct. |
The Police – Synchronicity II Lyrics | 3 years ago |
This may be totally wrong but I'll throw it out there. I was listening to this song on youtube. I had previously been watching a documentary about Aleister Crowley, of all people, who titled himself the wickedest man on earth. For some reason the following line reminded me of Aleister Crowley: "Many miles away there's a shadow on the door Of a cottage on the shore Of a dark Scottish lake" Aleister Crowley owned a house known as Boleskin House which was situated on the shore of Loch Ness. He was a well known practitioner of black magic and he started a ritual in this house called the abramelin ritual. I know this is a little weird but I thought I'd throw it out there |
Gerry Rafferty – Baker Street Lyrics | 3 years ago |

Elbow – K2 Lyrics | 3 years ago |
@[Viking_DownSouth:35480] At least one of the verses seems to refer to social media. God send us to a digital end With following strangers and swiping at friends I'll send you a postcard See you in Hull |
Gerry Rafferty – Baker Street Lyrics | 4 years ago |
Fanny and drink won't make your problems go away. That's what I take away from this song. |
Seal – Crazy Lyrics | 4 years ago |
Seal has said that this song was written in response to, or was inspired by, world events of the late 1980's. The fall of the Berlin Wall and the Tianenmen Square massacre amongst others. To be honest, I'd never really thought about the words of this song until I'd heard it today for the first time in years. I'll try to verbalise ths as best I can but it my come off as poory thought out or incoherent To be honest I'd always though that the first verse was just a reference to drug taking. "Miracles will happen as we trips" sounds pretty straight forward if taken literally but there is too much going in that first verse to be a simple drug reference. A man decides after seventy years That what he goes there for, is to unlock the door What 70 year old trips? Where's he going? What door is he unlocking? I feel like this verse and much of the rest of the song is about people railing against their current circumstances to achieve something that goes against the grain. That its somehow something to do with unfulfilled or unrealised human potential. |

@[jpmarmaro:28774] I'm 41. This song was released 6 years before I was born. Never once did I ever associate J.R.R Tolkien with this song EVER. I think you might be going into this a little too deeply. |

I still have no fucking idea what this is supposed to be about. Whoever wrote this was off their tits. I love how some people try to interpret this song. In reality. they're just talking bollocks as well most of the time, |

Phil Collins – In The Air Tonight Lyrics | 12 years ago |
These song lyrics mean everything and nothing. There is nothing in the song that points to anything specific |
Al Stewart – Year Of The Cat Lyrics | 12 years ago |
We've had explanations from a love affair with a prostitute to a metaphor for the vietnam war. Then we have heroin addiction and an explanation of the plot of casablnaca. 4 Explanations that could not be more unrelated Does anybody here actually know what the hell they're talking about. Isnt this proof enough that the song is probably meaningless. |
Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Pure unadulterated nonsense. I have no idea how anyone can hail this piece of shit as a rock classic. |
The Beatles – I Am the Walrus Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Personally I think a well written song doesnt need much thought to figure out its meaning. The meaning should be clear and unequivocal. A song thats open to interpretation doesnt mean anything. Whether you like it or agree with it is another thing entirely but it should be clear. Thats not to say that all songs that have clear meanings are good. Far from it. |
The Beatles – I Am the Walrus Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This piece of sh*t reaffirms my belief that the Beatles are the most overrated musical entity in history. This is actualy worse than la la la la la la la la la la la hey jude. Wouldnt it have been way more interesting if he had expressed his true feelings or intentions in the song " I wanna hold your hand " by replacing " I wanna hold your hand " with " I wanna grab your arse" or " I wanna squeeze your tit" |
The La's – There She Goes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I would never have guessed the song was about Heroin but there you go. |

Smog – Cold Discovery Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree with thither in that I believe ths encounter to be more a physical confrontation than a sexual encounter. Maybe a row between lovers or husband and wife |
Smog – Nineteen Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Its definitely about the loss of virginity. Does the first line mean what I thinks it means? |
Smog – Nineteen Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I heard it that way too. |
Smog – Bloodflow Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Is it not about a fight or a stabbing or some other form of violence. Beats me how a tete a tete and borrowing a machete are going to solve impotence problems |
Oasis – Don't Look Back in Anger Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is total and utter nonsense |
