Townes Van Zandt – Pancho & Lefty Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Here's another story from Van Zandt... Pancho & Lefty were a couple of police officers that pulled him over one morning for speeding - tongue and cheek do come to mind. Look up YouTube interviews... But this song has such an impetus that really pushes Van Zandt's strained delivery... it gives it so much charm to add to it's melancholic nostalgia... overlay a bit of Tijuana brass and this is a cracker! Willie Nelson does a good one, a finely polished one, but you really feel the dust on Van Zandt's boots, see the fraying ends of his coat sleeves and smell the rye on his breath - major authenticity here.... |
Simon and Garfunkel – Kathy's Song Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song thrusts a hand down my throat grabs my heart and pulls it out... I should have known his song for more of my life. i've known Simon & Garfunkel for some forty years but Kathy's Song for only nine months - how is that. It means more every time I listen... I have cried in more places listening to this than I care to mention and I don't care. Quite the most simply beautiful song ever written ad there are a lot of beautiful songs, and songwriting is not a competition. So here I am again sitting in a quite ordinary hotel lobby with a drink, catching up on some personal admin and convulsing with emotion as the song plays......... |
