Teenage Bottlerocket – Maverick Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This song is 100% about the movie "Top Gun". |
NOFX – This Machine Is 4 Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Gear, Cam and Cog are all parts of the machine. They are common parts in factories. "She's a gear, you're a cam, I'm a cog This machine was invented by McBean But we all make up the parts" |
NOFX – Doornails Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Agreed, I believe this may be a direct reference to the MASH theme song "Suicide is Painless". Even the NOFX wiki site links to that song on the page for "Doornails". |
Frank Turner – Nashville Tennessee Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Frank is trying to say that he wishes he was in Nashville, Tennessee, home of country music. But instead he is in England. He wishes that he had someone in his band that played steel guitar because that would improve the sound of his songs but he is just a solo artist at the time he wrote this song. "if I knew anybody who played pedal steel guitar, I'd get them in my band and then my band would get real far, But I was raised in middle England, and not in Nashville Tennessee, And the only person in my band is me" I don't think he is trying to say that he wishes he was American and it certainly has nothing to do with bands "selling out" like someone else mentioned. |
The Lawrence Arms – The Redness In The West Lyrics | 10 years ago |
it's a line from the movie "Half Baked", so is "who's coming with me?". |
NOFX – The Man I Killed Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This song is about Fat Mike and President George W Bush (who was President at the time this song was written). Mike even said that the song was about Bush at Riot Fest in 2012 - right before NOFX played this song - so to anyone that thinks this song is about anyone else - you are WRONG, end of story, end of discussion! Also, the line about being "executed by the state..." - that is in reference to Fat Mike being executed for the assassination - it is not referring to Bush or Hitler or JFK or anyone else being executed. Now that you know this, the meaning of the song is pretty obvious. |
NOFX – You Will Lose Faith Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This song is about people that believe in god yet horrible things still happen to them. "Where is your god now?" - why didn't he help you out in this situation? Because he doesn't exist. Its a sad song, they aren't saying that being an atheist would have prevented these problems but its still silly to have faith in something you have never seen. |
NOFX – Wolves In Wolves' Clothing Lyrics | 11 years ago |
first of all, the meaning of the title - "Wolves in Wolves Clothing". Everyone has heard of "wolves in sheep's clothing" which basically means that a bad person is disguised as a good person - NOFX is saying that the "wolves" are not trying to disguise themselves - they are openly being bad and aren't afraid to hide it. This song is definitely about the United States - "We've finally become The Divided States, A nation built on freedom..." "we are this planet's kidney stones" "metamorphasis from first to last" (USA used to be the #1 nation but is going downhill). "We all want a Hollywood end, But we're getting the foreign one... ...the epitaph of a drowning NATION" Also, the song mentions Jim Jones and the "Kool-Aid" - which is a common mistake - it was actually "Flavor-Aid" - but the point is not lost. |
NOFX – My Sycophant Others Lyrics | 11 years ago |
The voice that says "You guys are totally wrong about Mike being wrong..." is NOFX's manager Kent. |
NOFX – I, Fatty Lyrics | 11 years ago |
good info...would have never known this! From the title you would expect it to be about Fat Mike. |
NOFX – Ronnie & Mags Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Ronnie: Ronald Reagan (former US President) Mags: Margaret Thatcher (former British Prime Minister) Song is about different world problems during the time that Ronnie and Mags were in power (Khmer Rouge, Falklands War, U.S. invasion of Grenada, Iran-Contra affair, Bobby Sands - prisoner that died in a hunger strike). Reagan also won by a "landslide" in 1984 pres. election, winning in 49 of 50 states. |
NOFX – This Machine Is 4 Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Song is based on a Dr. Seuss story called "The Sneetches". I copied the following from Wikipedia: "The story tells of a group of creatures called Sneetches, some of whom have a green star on their bellies. At the beginning of the story, Sneetches with stars discriminate against and shun those without. A "fix-it-up chappie" named Sylvester McMonkey McBean appears and offers the Sneetches without stars the chance to have them with his Star-On machine, for three dollars. The treatment is instantly popular, but this upsets the original star-bellied Sneetches, as they are in danger of losing their special status. McBean then tells them about his Star-Off machine, costing ten dollars, and the Sneetches who originally had stars happily pay the money to have them removed in order to remain special. However, McBean does not share the prejudices of the Sneetches, and allows the recently starred Sneetches through this machine as well. Ultimately this escalates, with the Sneetches running from one machine to the next. 'The Sneetches' was intended by Seuss as a satire of discrimination between races and cultures, and was specifically inspired by his opposition to antisemitism." |

NOFX – I've Got One Jealous Again, Again Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This is a follow-up to the song "We Got Two Jealous Agains" from The War on Errorism which was about when Mike met Erin (his ex-wife) and this new song is about their divorce in 2010. Some of the references: Jealous Again - Black Flag Neurosis - band The Lookouts - band Golden Shower of Hits / Group Sex - Circle Jerks Misfits coffin set was a box set shaped like a coffin The Spits - band No Control / Suffer - Bad Religion Let's Go - Rancid Freedom of Choice - Devo The Guilt Show - The Get Up Kids Walk Among Us - Misfits Replacements - band Etherteen - band (AKA E-13) Nihilistics - band Guns N Roses with Robert Williams cover - the original cover art for "Appetite for Destruction" was done by Robert Williams and was too graphic and had to be changed Fugazi - band if you know anything that I missed, including the missing lyrics, please let me know. |
NOFX – Jamaica's Alright (If You Like Homophobes) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
according to Wikipedia... "Fear homage and reference to Bad Brains rumored Homophobia" |
Against Me! – Lehigh Acres Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The song isn't hard to understand...it's about a community in Florida called Lehigh Acres where thousands of homes were built in the early 2000's then their values dropped and a lot of people lost their homes. Those people went from upper-middle class to broke pretty quick. |
Frank Turner – Jet Lag Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The lyrics should read "14,000 Miles" It goes: 14 Thousand Miles 15 Different Girls 16 Hours |
Bad Religion – Only Rain Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think you're correct...religious people would look at the rain and assume that it is caused by "god" as some sort of payback for bad things that humans have done, but Greg looks at it in a scientific way..."It's just rain". |
Bad Religion – The Resist Stance Lyrics | 13 years ago |
ArcticDawg...the lyrics are correct here, it is "convictions". |
Sundowner – Untitled song (Performed live) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is titled "Mouth of a Tiger" from We Chase the Waves. |
Sundowner – Your Self Portrait Lyrics | 14 years ago |
That was a typo...the actual title is "Your Self Portrait" - look it up on wikipedia |
Cobra Skulls – Faith Is A Cobra Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song sounds like something Greg Graffin would write... He says he doesn't know what happens when we die, unlike most people who believe they go to "heaven" or "hell" Angels are like unicorns and Santa Claus - not real Religions are like cults It's rediculous for people to be excited for the return of Jesus because that would signify the end of the world and the death of everyone! He's saying, "I could be right, I could be wrong, but even if I'm wrong, I'd still want to live my life now and be good to everyone" Also, whoever submitted these lyrics, it's "Bleeding" not "Breeding"! |
Cobra Skulls – Rebel Fate Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is about the war... "Crossing the Rubicon" is a popular idiom meaning to pass a point of no return. It refers to Caesar's 49 BC crossing of the Rubicon river, which was considered an act of war. The Military Commissions Act basically gives the US the ability to imprison enemy combatants, "when you're charged with nothing...in the system there's nothing that you can do" The last part is about how Americans don't give a shit about the war, they just keep doing things like going shopping instead of trying to help put an end to the war. |
NOFX – The Quitter Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The song is about people who are addicted to drugs or alcohol |
Tom Gabel – Cowards Sing at Night Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I might be completely wrong but I think this song is about John McCain. "Johnny" "Veitnam" "Faith in you fathers" (McCain wrote a book called 'Faith of my Fathers') "Come back home" and "Your war is over" probably refer to the fact that McCain never stops talking about how he was a POW....it's OVER, stop talking about it! |
Tom Gabel – Anna is a Stool Pigeon Lyrics | 15 years ago |
the song pretty much speaks for itself. It's about the Sacramento Three, 3 environmental activists. A girl who went by the name of "Anna" was hired by the FBI to infiltrate their group and pass along info to the authorities about their activities, recording conversations, etc. |
Sundowner – Midsummer Classic Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The title of the song references the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, which is always referred to as the "midsummer classic" because it takes place during July each year. |
NOFX – Lori Meyers Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Corrected Lyrics: (Mike) Lori Meyers used to live upstairs Our parents had been friends for years Almost every afternoon we'd play forbidden games At nine years old there's no such shame It wasn't recognition of her face What brought me back was a familiar mark As it flashed across the screen I bought some magazines, some video tape scenes Incriminating acts, I felt that I could save (Kim) Who the hell are you to tell me how to live? You think I sell my body; I merely sell my time I ain't no Cinderella, I ain't waitin' for no prince To save me in fact until just now, I was doin' just fine And on and on I know what degradation feels like I felt it on the floor At the factory Where I worked long before I took control - now I answer to me With the 50K I make this year will go anywhere I please Where's the problem? |
