Considering that these lyrics came from the twisted mind of Shaun Ryder.. Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to meaning. In many ways, I think its just a flow of consciousness in the lyrics. Anyone who has listened to the Happy Mondays extensively probably has come to the realization that a majority of Shaun's lyrics are well.. out there.. but then again.. what did you expect from the Happy Mondays! Wow, you guys have a lot to learn.. First, this has nothing to do with Coke.. The White Lady refers to Heroin.. Why? China White! Duh, come on guys.. and ask any addict.. Heroin is always referred to as a women.. "She whispers to you.. " in reference to the "Heroin Whisper".. Waking up in the middle of the night. Common withdrawal symptoms.. Being discrete.. and playing it down.. anyone who has been an addict of the junk knows what this means.. You have two sets of friends.. those who know the truth and use with you and those you lie to and say you only did it once too.. The whole reference of the "Metal".. easy.. if he smoked it, he smoked dope off of Aluminum Foil.. aka Trays.. But it can easily be related to needles.. Second.. with Needle in the Hay out there. why would you think coke anyways? Coke isn't something that drives you to kill yourself.. It doesn't make you depressed.. This boy was a victim of heroin addiction.. and as a recovering addict myself.. I understand where he was.. and I only wished they had Suboxone (http://www.suboxone.com) available for him like they do for us today.. it would have saved his life.. If you haven't ever done heroin.. do yourself a favor and just go sky diving.. its not worth it.. its seriously something you live with for the rest of your life.. Okay, class is done kiddies. |
