you know how you hear the phrase " i would die for him/her" from people who are in love?
i think this is kind of an exaggerated story on that phrase... she literally swapped lives with him; she committed her whole existence to him, and then died, as all humans do. i dont think that its that he made her die, per se, more like he absorbed her whole life. i think the cursing she's asking about is his immortality.. as in, will you be here alone when im gone?
i think the most beautiful part is her complete acceptance of her death. no jealousy that he lives on without her, but simply an appreciation of the love they shared.
i think the mummy idea is just an anaolgy for true love, you know how you meet that one person who just sweeps you off your feet and brings you to life, and then basically gives you all of themselves, without hesitation.
its a real gem of a song.

im totally in agreement with no name 1....... iv only really told one of good friends about elliott and she gets him...all my other friends just know that im big into the music of some guy called elliott ha ha... its sort of selfish but i just couldnt stand to hear a crowd of idiots going 'oh my god i totally like LOVE elliott smith....he's just , like oh my god!' its sort of selfish, but......id say thats why he's not as celebrated a musician as he should be.. his fans are torn between telling everyone how amazing he is and keeping him to ourselves |

this man.. he just never wrote a bad song.ever. its incredible how each and every one is like the best song ever. i just got a live version of this and his voice isnt great and the sound is pretty poor, but i just cant stop listening to it. each word in the song is just charged with emotion. its incredible. |

ugh...that comment saying that this song HAD to be about britain is so wrong. Prehaps you should know that the rest of the worlds perception of Britain is similar to that of America. As in the nation's main goal is to become wealthier and gain power whatever the cost on other countries. Lets take some examples: India? Ireland? Australia? several countries in Africa? Maybe you should check up on your own country before calling others self-centred. Just a thought. |

and to FTB. that is something we can forever speculate, but never know. the press sometimes called him mr misery but i would have thought the word "mystery" to be more apt.
i love this song and i cant wait for " New Moon" which is coming out this may. There is also going to be a book of photography of elliott as well as interviews with musicians who were inspired by him. It's by Autumn de Wilde, and will be out next october/november. |
