Los Campesinos! – Baby I Got The Death Rattle Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Yeah, I think it's pretty clearly about the end of a relationship I think the Baby I got the death rattle line is more in reference to generally him feeling like he's dying then what's causing him to die. The following line of "Your 6 months old, sh-shakin me" is a play on words and could just mean she's responsible for it or could refer to how she toys with him or messes him about. but with lines like I've been digging my grave For quite some time When I'm not digging up the past And I chewed my only necktie From the metal frame of my bed Where I tied your wrists together Spent all night givin' (Oh, you get the message) it clearly indicates there's history there. I think more or less the bit about him giving head has less signifigance to the overall song as much as it is a memory. I think the song works at times like a scrapbook of memories from a failed relationship. The mentions of the stuffed bear, the red in the snow just an example of their regular difference in perspective. |

Los Campesinos! – Straight in at 101 Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think this is could be both literal or entirely metaphorical, but obvious a break-up song after things weren't working out and he wasn't satisfied. I'm not sure if he's actually the one who ended but I think either way it's over. The Goals I think is an obvious play on words for both ambitions given the last song and literal football goals. and the end I think is tongue-in-cheek about the nature of his self pitying or self agonizing following the break-up. |
Los Campesinos! – Plan A Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think this is pure fantasy and given the context it might either be his irrational regret this never happened or about missed opportunities due to self doubt. Perhaps even something he blames his partner for standing in the way of. |
Los Campesinos! – We've Got Your Back (Documented Minor Emotional Breakdown #2) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song is really hard for me to get anything out of, following the narrative path of the album, the only thing I can really gather from this is from the final refrains. The guy finds the fact that she never says anything frustrating and infuriating, the supposed hints she's been giving him he hasn't picked up on. She's been trying very clearly to tell him for awhile now and he hasn't taken the time to notice, so she's done trying. The first two verses someone can have a crack at, cause I'm not getting anything. The only other theme I'd pick up on is that the chorus seems to be the narrator either taking comfort or support in friends or given the denial he's in and the following song, maybe he's not so much leaning on his friends as he is a football club? It's a shot in the dark but. |
Los Campesinos! – Romance Is Boring Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Ima take a stab at these since nobody else is seeming to, Starting from There Are Listed Buildings which I think UYD4L nailed. Romance is Boring seems to be a thematic continuation, I think the first verse is a metaphor for the path the relationship takes, he's the one forced into the place of responsibility for where it goes now, if it fails, he's to blame. She seems unhappy with the relationship but is too scared to do anything about it, she doesn't have the courage to break up with him and doesn't have anywhere to escape to even though as I think the pleasure cruise/gone out to trawl lyrics indicate, she hasn't ever really given up scouting for other suitors. He seems to recognize she's not happy and that's he's not entirely either, the difference I think is that he's hopeful they can spark a passion again (the euphemism for sex mentioned above) but she's not really having it. So both of them are stuck in a situation where they're watching the relationship decay and neither are doing anything about it, both are bored, but seeking different outcomes. |

I'm pretty sure it's some variation "So you say you're getting better" |
Los Campesinos! – The Sea Is a Good Place to Think of the Future Lyrics | 13 years ago |
There's no reason whatsoever to believe this is about Aleks. Nor do I think that it would make sense for him to write something that personal about her & ask her to sing on it. bahchicitabah is just talking shit. |

The National – Driver, Surprise Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The song seems to me at least about the end of a relationship and someone who's convinced themself they're over a relationship only to realize they still aren't |
TV on the Radio – Red Dress Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Someone is certainly defense of their beliefs against silly things like I dunno...facts..but whatever. It's an awesome song though, I definitely think it has to do with the oppression of blacks and women throughout history and many still feeling powerless in today's society with still a lack real equality between races and gender in this country.(Though the recent election certainly was a new benchmark) |
Blur – Girls and Boys Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The song is satire on the club and party culture of the 90s, the people who go out, get drunk, and sleep with a random stranger. I also take the "always should be some you really love" line to be the one genuine lyric, they don't care if you are gay or straight as long as you are in love. It's pretty much all there with the mentions of quick thinking, snap judgement, STDs, how little these people know each other. I think that's also why it has such a dancy tune. |
