I've generally thought of it as being about a person who died (though of course it can be interpreted any way you like). The words, like "it starts to sink in" and "you'll be with me still", etc, seem more potent when they're about death.

This is probably really lame but I had a cat a couple years ago that died at almost exactly 10:20 a.m. As I was carrying her out to bury her the words "I carry you out, it starts to sink in" fit entirely too perfectly.

I don't think it's "Paul Hellion" or "poor hellion". It's probably "parhelion" (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_dog). Given Kevin's tendency to use obscure references, it wouldn't surprise me if this was the case.
