Nelly Furtado – Onde Estás Lyrics | 17 years ago |
^yes, it can sometimes be similar to portuguese -- I think she speaks European portuguese, and she has sung songs in spanish, however, these lyrics are not in spanish. for example: ¿Dónde estás? ("Where are you?" --> spanish) ¿Onde estás? ("Where are you?" --> portuguese) Las horas de día ("in the hours of the day" --> spanish) Nas horas do dia ("in the hours of the day" --> portuguese) Espero a noche ("I wait for the night --> spanish) Espero a noite ("I expect/wait/? for the night --> portuguese) |

*whoops, I wrote a typo, it's just supposed to be "what I wrote ABOVE you", not "about you". Apologies. |
Nelly Furtado – Promiscuous (featuring Timbaland) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
dengeist mate, calm down. If what you wrote is in response to what I wrote about you, I suggest you learn how to read. Because you basically reiterated what I said when I agreed that it was a SMART move on her behalf because of the audience and money she will make with this style. All I'm basically saying is I don't like it, simple as. And I had pointed out that she has done hip-hop and r&b influenced songs before, so for Christs sake mate, calm down and read. as for the meaning of the song.. it's pretty self explanatory don't ya think. |

^If her motives aren't to "appeal to the mainstream audience" then why does this song have the sound of all the other mainstream hip-hop/r&b sounds out there? Look, in pretty much all genres there are the radio-friendly artists and the non-radio-friendly artists/semi-radio-friendly. Her lyrics don't annoy me, Nelly Furtado can (and has) talked about so many different things that I think at this point she can talk about whatever she wants and I'd respect her still. It's the way she is promoting it, not herself, "it", the sound. It will ultimately get her on the teen-top-whatever charts and into the club scene more. And foo55, I am well aware that she has dabbled in hip-hop before, but the sound she had before (excluding when she was featured in certain songs) wasn't like everything else being released at the time. It's a smart move for her since to stay relatively high in this industry you have to be well liked by the general public and not just the minority who care about your uniqueness. And I already stated before she'll make heaps of money off this album. I'm not going to start boycotting her just because I don't like her new and quite typical style, but I personaly don't like it, and can see how other people will now like her more since she's gone mainstream. That being said, I've not listened to her entire album, so 1. how can I "come out" and say she's a sell out (just yet) and 2. who knows, her originality may still be intact and this may be the song to get people to buy the singles and listen to her on the airwaves, I shall see when it gets released. |

When you ask "when is the last time someone has really paid attention to Nelly Furtado in the past three years" it just proves how her new sound is just to make money. Well, I can't really call it a new sound since it's used by pretty much every mainstream r&b/hip-hop artist out there... The point is loop-to-loop, as hard as it is for you to understand, the music she is promoting now is going to make her money BECAUSE she has become like all the other radio-friendly mainstream artists out there. Simple As. Well, I guess not in your case because you probably still don't understand my point. |
Nelly Furtado – Promiscuous (featuring Timbaland) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It'll be interesting to see what kind of music the people who buy her album listen to in the first place. I'll doubt they'd listen to anything she had done before. Because majority of the people that think this style is better than her earlier stuff pretty much prove my point about her move to attract a mainstream audience. |
Nelly Furtado – Promiscuous (featuring Timbaland) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
^I couldn't possibly roll my eyes any higher at your comment loop-to-loop. This is nothing more than all the other radio-friendly songs out there right now. Nelly Furtado will no doubt make heaps of money off this album, especially compared to her last album. But what some of the other Nelly Furtado fans (myself included) feel, is that she's making loads of cash off a typical mainstream sound, instead of her previous unique style. |
Nelly Furtado – No Hay Igual Lyrics | 18 years ago |
From what I understand of Spanish, I'll put the English part in brackets. I've heard different lyrics though, so I'll post those as well: Quiero tesoro, no hay algo mismo Por eso espero, duele mi cuerpo Tu me encantas, el tiempo pasa No quiero otro, no hay igual! No hay igual (Que hacemos?) No hay igual (Que hacemos?) No-No-No-No No hay igual (What it is?) Ven y mira lo! Venga y nunca va con mi dolor Loco para ti por favour, y ya conozco tu olor (What it is?) Mucho gusto senor Cuando estoy contigo siento tanto calor. (What it is?) Ni levantas cuando cantas a mi nombre (oh-oh-oh-oh-oh) Ni levantas cuando cantas a mi nombre (oh-oh-ohhhh) Ay que lindo, es mi chico tengo listo (oh-oh-oh-oh-oh) Ay que nino, necesito, tu sonido (ah-ah-ah-ah-ahhhh) --- ** I want a treasure, there’s nothing equal For that I’m waiting, my body hurts I really like you [Well, literally, you are enchanting to me], my body hurts I don’t want another, there is no one the same There is no one the same (What do we do?) There is no one the same (What do we do?) (What it is?) Come and look at it! You come and never leave with my pain. (What it is?) I am crazy for you, please, and I already know your scent (What it is?) My pleasure, sir When I am with you, I feel so much heat. I go crazy with your love And I already understand your (honor?) The hunger that I have, you have to kill. My cup says you have to fill (well?) night eyes you have to cap Tell me that you are not going to leave me (behind) (What it is?) How many things, I want that man. I want what I want, and I want it now (What it is?) Don’t get up when you sing my name (oh-oh-oh-oh) Don’t get up when you sing my name (oh-oh-ohhh) Ay, how cute is my guy, (??) (oh-oh-oh-oh) Ay, that boy, I need, your (?? Sound? Song??) (ah-ah-ah-ahhh) ]** --- Any fluent speakers of Spanish feel free to jump in and correct all my mistakes please :) |
Nelly Furtado – Promiscuous (featuring Timbaland) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I don't think it's the lyrics that annoy me about this song, it's the style that she's presenting it in. She'll sell heaps more albums, I've listened to some of her other tracks on the new album, and it's definetly radio friendly. So I doubt I'll buy it, too much of the same floating around anyways, I liked the music she produced earlier, but if I happen to hear it on the radio then I'll listen, it's not horrible, but I'd have to be in the mood to listen to this stuff compared to how I could listen to her older stuff all the time. |
Rilo Kiley – A Better Son/Daughter Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Actually, at the beginning I don't think it's a night terror. Because then they'd be screaming, etc. "Sometimes in the morning I am petrified and can’t move Awake but cannot open my eyes And the weight is crushing down on my lungs I know I can’t breathe And I hope someone will save me this time" it's not supposed to be "help me this time", it's "save me this time". And based on what it says, it sounds like sleep paralysis. I've had that before, it's terrifying because it's when your brain becomes alert before you're about to fall asleep, or right after you're coming out of sleep, but your body is paralyzed and usually you feel a huge weight on your chest because you're trying to force yourself to breathe or something. |
Nelly Furtado – Forca Lyrics | 18 years ago |
She didn't make it during the cup. (It doesn't matter if you've been in Portugal during Euro 2004 or not by the way because no one was doubting about it being the offical song....) Her album (Folklore) was released in Novemeber 2003.. Euro 2004 was Summer of 2004.. They used it as their offical theme song because UEFA chose her song as the offical song, there's a difference. In an interview, she said that while she was touring Portugal, people would say goodbye to her by saying "Força" which (she said) translates into "keep going" or "kick ass" plus it's associated with futbol. So she put a feminine twist on the idea of how you feel when you're watching your national team etc. |
Nelly Furtado – Forca Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I love this song, and also, as a sidenote, it wasn't made for Euro2004, Euro2004 used it as their theme song. There's a difference :) |
Nelly Furtado – Powerless (Say What You Want) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Well, did anyone see that magazine cover where they had digitally altered tohe photo to make her whiter and her skirt shorter? she wrote this after that. I think it's a very powerful message, I like how she's so bold. |
Nelly Furtado – Onde Estás Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Well, there are one minor corrections that I would like to make to the posted lyrics, the last few lines should read: "Onde Estás" instead of "Donde", and she is actually saying "la" instead of "mar" over and over inbetween the verses. Other than that, from what I can understand of Portuguese, roughly translated into English: The hours of the day, The hours of the day, I wait for the night, I wait for the night. (repeat) I watch the waves pass over the ocean, I watch the waves pass over the ocean. *la.... The hours of the day, The hours of the day, I wait for the night, I wait for the night. (repeat) I watch the stars cry out your name, I watch the stars cry out your name. *la... The hours of the day, The hours of the day, I close my eyes, I close my eyes. I go to the highlands to ask where you are, I go to the highlands to ask where you are. Where are you? Where are you? Where are you? Where are you? |
Nelly Furtado – Explode Lyrics | 19 years ago |
On her website, she said that this song came from a poem she wrote called "Teenage Waste". and it was about how when you're a teenage you want to try everything and talks about teenage experimentation and fun as well as the violence and aggression. I love this song by the way, one of my favorites by her, she's a great writer, and one of my favorite artists. |
