Halloween, Alaska – All The Arms Around You Now Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i'm pretty sure it's "can't you listen to the past? can't you let the sickness pass?" |
Brand New – You Won't Know Lyrics | 14 years ago |
yeah i agree, i think it should be "and you can't blame your mother, she's trying not to say i was your worst mistake." |
3OH!3 – Don't Trust Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Helen Keller fell ill when she was 19 months old with either scarlet fever or meningitis & it was presumed she would not survive. she did, however it was soon discovered that the illness had made her blind & deaf, and as she hadn't learnt to speak, she was also mute. she spent her life learning to speak through touching peoples' throats, feeling vibrations and mimicking those vibrations. she went on to study an arts degree, write novels & be a strong activist for women's rights. |
3OH!3 – Don't Trust Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
... hoping the "get a life" part of your response wasn't meant for me as i never said i didn't like the song. i found ridiculously catchy until i heard those lyrics i disapproved of. you could perceive it kind of like a joke, that's probably how they were intending it. but i don't see that anyone should ever make light of a struggle so huge. songmeanings wasnt't created just for people who like the songs. that's a fan page, there are plenty of those out there if you're interested. it's for your thoughts, opinions, anything. you joined so you could write about it & respond to everyone who wasn't impressed with the song. & thus the cycle continues. also i don't think someone not thinking this song is good makes them thick headed at all. it makes their opinion different to most of the others on here.. but that's not stupid or wrong. |
3OH!3 – Don't Trust Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"shoosh girl, shut your lips, do the helen keller and talk with your hips." i heard this song for the first time today. do you guys know who helen keller is? i'm disgusred by these lyrics. how disrespectful. |
Jack's Mannequin – Bruised Lyrics | 15 years ago |
'you haven't shown your face here since the bad news' so whilst i agree with most people's interpretations, what is that? i don't know much about andrew's personal life so i imagined a miscarriage for some reason. but maybe it's just the fact he had to tour again. |
The Weakerthans – Left and Leaving Lyrics | 15 years ago |
StrayCatStyle22 - his voice really isn't that annoying. have you heard some stuff by the mountain goats? even modest mouse. people who don't have the best voices still write & produce incredible songs and most of the time you're happy that their voices aren't airbrush perfect. the imperfections add character and emotion. |
Right Away, Great Captain! – I'm Not Ready to Forgive You Lyrics | 15 years ago |
oh sorry, & sum for departure meaning his reason for leaving in the first place &/or his reason for thinking he'll leave again. |
Right Away, Great Captain! – I'm Not Ready to Forgive You Lyrics | 15 years ago |
'but smiling back behind you stood the sum, for departure' i think that's when he sees his brother coming to greet him too. & at the sight of his wife he's fallen back in love with her but then he sees the brother & feels all the betrayal he felt to begin with & realises he's not over it & isn't ready to forgive her. |
Joshua Radin – Vegetable Car Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i can't make myself like this song. i love every other song on the cd though. |
Joshua Radin – One Of Those Days Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i think she meant to come back but got so carried away with the world & so got distracted that she never came back. he waited all that time. |
Joshua Radin – Friend Like You Lyrics | 15 years ago |
to me this song is about an incredible person, the most incredible. about someone who does everyone for everyone asking nothing in return. all these things they do go unappreciated by so many until these people go out into the world without this person & realise there's no-one else quite like them. it's so simple & so very beautiful. i feel like it was written about my best friend but luckily i've already realised this is how she is. |
Manchester Orchestra – Sleeper 1972 Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i used to skip this song when i first bought the album because it was slower, more mellow, less captivating of my attention.. but now i have no idea why i didn't listen before. thank god it's about a vision & not real life, that's all i can say.. makes listening to it bearable. before i came on here to check it out, i felt sick just listening to the lyrics. 'I still see you inside of this god awful house. You move awfully quiet now. And I still feel you everywhere.' it's haunting. |
Whitley – The Life I Keep Lyrics | 15 years ago |
incredible. i saw whitley at falls & have been in love with this album ever since. |
Cara Dillon – There were roses Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this song is heartbreaking. |
Ingrid Michaelson – Breakable Lyrics | 15 years ago |
ooooh i thought it was have you ever thought up what tacks up hearts? that makes more sense though.. |
Band of Horses – The Funeral Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this song is absolutely beautiful. the first verse is chilling. |
The Red Paintings – It Is As It Was Lyrics | 16 years ago |
along all those lines... if i look at it simply & don't try to analyse the verses. from 'so sorry they didn't tell you about the world.. we're so sorry we didn't tell you about the world.' it's just like a cycle. it's like you grow up not having being warned of all the world's harsh realities & you're resentful for it but then you have kids yourself & you can never seem to quite find the right way, the right words to explain how it is or how it'll be for them so they grow up & experience it for themselves & in turn resent you.. so the cycle continues. |
Right Away, Great Captain! – Gasoline Family Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this song is the most incredible thing. it haunts me. his voice is so fragile & yet it's the most powerful thing i've ever heard. especially when he sings 'why? to help my family? to a help a family, who's been replacing me?' |
Special Patrol – Hey Good Try Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this song is beautiful. reminds me of losing touch within friendships but not due to wanting to. it's about running away from past mistakes & the realisation that you can't leave them behind until you accept them & better yourself based around them. |
Right Away, Great Captain! – Like Lions Do Lyrics | 16 years ago |
absolutely insane. riddled with brilliance. |
Right Away, Great Captain! – Right Ahead, Young Sailor! Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i'm thinking the young sailor's wife cheated with someone. possibly even the captain, but maybe that's just too far. & the sailor is saying how can i not do anyting? i have kids. & the captain is speaking in wisdom saying that's why you can't do anything kinda thing. also saying it'd be so much easier if.. but then again what does the bigger man even mean? & what ever does a plan really do? siiiick song. |
Right Away, Great Captain! – Cause I'm So Scared of Dying Lyrics | 16 years ago |
also 'don't waste away, under the ground rise up for me, under the ground cause I'm wasting away, under the ground' |
Right Away, Great Captain! – Cause I'm So Scared of Dying Lyrics | 16 years ago |
also i think it's 'god, i believe you anyway. just leave me, anyday.' |
Right Away, Great Captain! – Cause I'm So Scared of Dying Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i get a little david ford feel from this song, his voice mainly. absolutely incredible. i'm trying to figure it out though. at first it seems simple, but the more i llisten, i'm not so sure. |
Ingrid Michaelson – The Hat Lyrics | 16 years ago |
What I don't recall is why I said, "I simply can't sleep in this tiny bed with you anymore.". it's like she's saying it was so innocent and perfect but i have no idea why i thought to end it. and the 'i should tell you that you were my first love. we're seventeen again' makes me think she never said it at the time but she's taking him back to say it now. not wanting to be back there, but not wanting to never have said it either. its awesome. |
Manchester Orchestra – I Can Feel Your Pain Lyrics | 16 years ago |
'I was scared to call your mother For news that you weren’t getting better My God, just what the hell am I supposed to do?' so real. sometimes you avoid bad news best you can even know you know full well that it won't change it. absolutely fucking incredible song. he's so raw. you can hear the pain in his voice and almost feel the pain because of it. |
Kevin Devine – Cotton Crush Lyrics | 16 years ago |
the part where he talked about seeing a girl wearing his shirt and humming his song really interests me. i think it's his way of saying that he wishes the two parts of his life could be seperate. he's just like any normal guy getting stoned in a park except that then a girl will walk past clearing reminding him he's not just a normal guy getting stoned in a park. & i wonder that she didn't notice him.. is that supposed to have something to do with it. like she knows me song, she has my merch but she walks past me in a park and doesn't recognise me. i'm not sure. but i do know that 'Your friends won't wait, so don't believe that shit, when they say they'll wait. Trust me; your friends will not wait for you.' makes me shiver... could be about fame. could also be in general. if you're going through a rough time and not being so great to everyone in your life and they seem patient, how long will it last? |
Dido – Don't Leave Home Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i was at a gig of hers and she said straight out that she knew heaps of people used it as a wedding song and thought it was sweet and all but she was sorry to break it to everyone that it's about drug addiction. straight from the horse's mouth. |
Dido – See You When You're 40 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
it's tiny. but i think it's 'being comforted by strangers who'll never need to know' not 'you'll never need to know' anyway i love this song. saw her when she came to adelaide ages ago. she really is brilliant. |
Colbie Caillat – Bubbly Lyrics | 16 years ago |
& if it were about an orgasm, why does the clip have nothing at all relevant to one? i realise kids would watch it, but who'd write a soppy lame song about an orgasm and then have a clip about a crush? |
Colbie Caillat – Bubbly Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i like the song, hate the lyrics. i get it's supposed to be cute and innocent and naive. but seriously? 'cause every time you hold me in your arms I'm comfortable enough to feel your warmth ' comfortable enough to feel your warmth? could they not have come up with anything better? in saying that, the song is catchy and the general message is sweet. |
Barlow Girl – She Walked Away Lyrics | 16 years ago |
except the part at the end, it could have nothing to do with religion.. that's why i like it. because people who haven't found faith can still listen and feel they relate. i think it could be from a sister's perspective. she felt misunderstood and held back at home, sick of everything, turned her back without explanation and left it all behind. the sister is speaking for the entire family telling her to come home, she's loved, they do understand etc. |
Manchester Orchestra – Don't Let Them See You Cry Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i like the 'and i trust you see it too, i trust you write them too, i trust you love me too'. like it's unwritten but known. very pretty. |
Faker – This Heart Attack Lyrics | 16 years ago |
you can be friends if you're in love. people do it all the time. it's not easy, or very fun. but definitely do-able. & this song is great. he wants time alone but still wants her to do all these things. it's such a contradiction & i think that's the main problem. |
Death Cab for Cutie – Steadier Footing Lyrics | 16 years ago |
But we just talk about the people we've met in the last five years And will we remember them in ten more? realistic. there are such truth in these simple lyrics. the entire song is natural and beautiful because of it. |
Manchester Orchestra – I Can Barely Breathe Lyrics | 16 years ago |
f you knew i was dying would it change you? and everybody has their reasons, thats the reason we're all going to die are incredible lyrics. |
The Getaway Plan – Where The City Meets The Sea Lyrics | 16 years ago |
increeeedible song. very simple lyrics but fit perfectly. song is addictive. |
Joseph Arthur – The Real You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I feel like taking a razor blade And on my wrist Write an invitation I feel like taking a loaded gun And in my mouth Blowing up the ocean such intense lyrics. brilliant, though. |
Vanessa Carlton – Who's to Say Lyrics | 16 years ago |
'And you say we're too young But maybe you're too old to remember' brilliance. young lovers leaving it all to runaway. incredible. |
Damien Rice – Older Chests Lyrics | 16 years ago |
divine. |
The Weepies – Happiness Lyrics | 17 years ago |
'Sometimes you gotta start clean You gotta begin not begin again, oh no' not to begin again, meaning you didn't like your life before. but begin in general, meaning you never really had a life before. intense, pretty. |
Ingrid Michaelson – Keep Breathing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
'i want to believe in more than you and me.' that line really gets to me. in a good way, i mean. like it's just not enough.. like the world doesn't revolve around them. she needs to believe there's more. |
Joseph Arthur – In The Sun Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i adore this. coldplay & michael stipe's version is beautiful too. but who did the original? please let me know asap. it's a long story. |
Joseph Arthur – In The Sun Lyrics | 17 years ago |
coldplay also do a live version with michael stipe which i found ages ago and loved. but just found this version... oh my its divine. |
Brand New – Coca-Cola Lyrics | 17 years ago |
quit fighting. this is supposed to be about the lyrics, not who found them where. swearing doesn't make you look tough. 'You work late and fight off your boss Your patient dies and you take the night off' -- meaning what exactly? a friend told me to get this song because i'm nursing at the moment.. but i'm not entirely sure how it's relevant. if anyone feels the urge to write about the meaning of the lyrics as opposed to squabbling, it'd be much appreciated. '"Bless your beautiful hide." and curse your god when your friends die.' -- is awesome. |
Joshua Radin – Closer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i can't bloody get this song! it sounds so good as well... it just won't work. i've ordered the cd in though.. so never fear. all comments are well thought out.. i'll let you know what i think once i've listened. |
Joshua Radin – Sundrenched World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
he's very self-conscious.. quite possibly has severe depression & thus is in hospital. they've split up but she comes to see him in all her happiness, in all her beauty. the nurse interrupts to give meds. he feels he made her happy & now he's depressed & she's still happy.. he can't understand it. can't understand why he can't be as happy anymore, why he doesn't belong with her like he used to.. how she can go on and he can't. why she comes in to make it harder yet more bearable. -- brilliant song. |
Joshua Radin – What If You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
'what if you could wish me away? what if you spoke those words today? i wonder if you'd miss me when i'm gone. it's come to this, release me, i'll leave before the dawn. but for tonight, i'll stay here with you yes, for tonight, i'll lay here with you. but when the sun hits your eyes through your window there'll be nothing you can do. what if you could hear this song? what if i felt like i belong? i might not be leaving (oh) so soon began the night believing i loved you in the moonlight so for tonight, i'll stay here with you yes for tonight, i'll lay here with you but when the sun hits your eyes through your window there'll be nothing you can do i could have treated you better, better than this well i'm gone, this song's your letter: i can't stay in one place so for tonight, i'll stay here with you yes, for tonight, i'll lay here with you but when the sun hits your eyes through your window there'll be nothing you can do.' just a tiny correction. i don't think it's about a lack of love. it's about too much love. both know it's destined to end, for whatever reasons. they're both just quietly waiting. she doesn't realise it's come to this.. & hence his 'what if you could hear this song?' as in she'd try to make him stay, she wants him there.. despite the knowledge that it shouldn't be. i think they've talked of him leaving before... but it's all been false alarms until now. & the next day when she wakes and finds him gone, she's going to want to find him like nothing else. but it'll be too late & it'll be for the best. |
Butterfly Boucher – Life Is Short Lyrics | 17 years ago |
make the most of each day. treasure the moments. don't waste chances waiting around. they're all short. & life is short too. brilliant song. |
