The Police – Synchronicity II Lyrics
|
"He knows that something somewhere has to break"
Doesn't sound like a man about to take out his family. Something has to break, not him. It will happen somewhere, not here. Many miles away.
The frustration of these millions of desperate people is causing something to occur many miles away. That's synchronicity. There is no synchronicity in a man cracking under strain and killing his family. |

Morrissey – Lucky Lisp Lyrics
|
All references to the gay lifestyle. "Stalls" are the bathroom stalls used for anonymous gay encounters. "Circle" = 'circle jerk' of men pleasuring themselves. "balcony" = gay porno theater where anonymous encounters also occur. "9 leaf clover" refers to a part of the posterior anatomy often used in these activities. |

Are we sure he's not saying "like Martin Luthers in mythology"? Both Martin Luthers began big things. |

The Cure – Faith Lyrics

When things are really terrible, there's nothing left but the faith that things will improve.
This is a solidly hopefully song. |

How is it that there's no comments on this track?! This is the most powerful song on the album!
Is she singing to her father at the end? |

The Cure – High Lyrics
|
Drugs? I don't see any drug references.
He hasn't lost the girl. They're still together, and he's happy that they didn't break up, although apparently they almost did.
When the simple interpretation makes sense, there's no reason to dig deeper. |

Jane's Addiction – Jane Says Lyrics
|
Contrary to popular belief, she says, she never sold her body for sex. "A lot of people hear the song and assume it's about a prostitute. It's not. If you could clear that, I'd appreciate it."

"call to action"? I'm a big REM fan, but the only action this song ever called me to was to reach for the remote. |

R.E.M. – The Wrong Child Lyrics

Why would a disabled child never go outside? The kid could be missing his legs or have some deformity that makes it very hard to run around like the other kids are. |

R.E.M. – You Are The Everything Lyrics

What interesting interpretations! I think I don't agree with any of them. I think by "eviscerate your memory" he means that he's not letting himself be distracted by his memories and instead looking around and getting lost in the moment |

Depeche Mode – Little 15 Lyrics
|
I never realized it, but it does make the most sense if the lad is 15, and he's involved with an older woman, and he is being counseled by the singer. I'd always thought the girl was 15, but then it really doesn't make as much sense that way.
Sorry, WolvenBlack, but why would Martin 'not be part of the real world yet', if he was already in his 20s? |

The Smiths – Suffer Little Children Lyrics
| 19 years ago
|
Ladyboygrrl, I think the song is aimed at Mancunians, who would be expected to know the history and the roles of Myra and Ian. I've never heard anyone attribute more blame to Myra, really. Perhaps it's more poignant for a lyricist to write about a psychokiller's sane (?) accomplice than the psychokiller themselves. |

Depeche Mode – Never Let Me Down Again Lyrics

I've been wondering about this song for ages. The drug interpretation finally makes sense! Even if Martin was clean and sober, I'm sure he had plenty of examples around him to draw from. |

Skinny Puppy – Tin Omen Lyrics
|
"Tim Omen" is a pun on Tiananmen Square, the site in China where, in 1989, the People's Army attacked peaceful protestors, much like Kent State. "Keep the camera alive" refers to the urgency in both cases to get the information out to the media. |

Front 242 – Red Team Lyrics
|
If the airwaves are cluttered by angst-jams, it's because people love to copy 242. This song predates them all.
It's a message from Satan, Death, Kali, Shiva the Destroyer, Loki, Ahriman, or whatever term you want to use for the embodiment of destruction. Nearly all religions contain a negative entity always working to kill people and thwart our plans. |

"fruit of the action" is a reference to the philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita. It refers to the results or goal of human action. Too much passionate concern for goals causes grief. |

Johnny Kennedy wasn't the shooter in that incident. The theory makes no sense.
But what a break from the normal rock cliches to write the song from such a perspective! |

The Cure – Catch Lyrics

I think it's about a girl with epilepsy. Then everything is explained except "But never even caught her name", which I chalk up to poetic license. |
