Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Fable of the Brown Ape Lyrics 18 years ago
There's been a lot of discussion about the meaning of this song. Nick has often said it's about Blixa, but the analogies aren't obvious at all. Some say Nick is the Ape and Blixa is Father Emmerich (which would make a lot of sense, since Blixa's real name is Emmerich). But others claim the contrary. And who's the cow and the serpent? Are they symbols for the Bad Seeds and EN? And the villagers? Fans? Why did the villagers chop the serpent open, and why did it contain "milk of human kindness"?

Just trying to get the ball running. Nick's music is usually rich in analogies, but this one is really undecipherable. I'd like to read your opinions.

On the line
"Up the southern river Thames"

Instead of "southern", I've read "solemn" and "sun on". I always thought it was "solemn", but I may be wrong.

Anyway, beautiful song.

Oh no, I'm sure I'm wrong! I wasn't suggesting anything. I just thought it'd be funny to share my misheard lyrics. ;)

Animal Collective – Who Could Win a Rabbit Lyrics 19 years ago
Oh man, this really looks like random words put together to form sintatically correct sentences.

"Words should be like station"
It sounds different... sounds like something ending in "kitchen" rather than "station".

Excelent song, by the way. :)

"Sympathize with the retard"
This part sounded something like "Simple ties are for retards"

"Till I’m birthed from their vulvas"
Haha, and this part sounded to me something ending in "ebola".

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – The Mercy Seat Lyrics 19 years ago
Concerning the character's duality between truth and untruth, I think it can also be seen as a duality between guilt and innocence, in the sense that the character might not consider himself guilty according to his moral standards, therefore telling the truth, but failing to understand why he's being judged by it.

This song is absolutely amazing. You should listen to the KCRW live version, if you think Cash's version is better.

By the way, as for Nick's "cleanness", I suppose he kicked it after The Good Son, but was on and off until around The Boatman's Call, where I think he put an end to it. Not sure though.
