Herman Dune – Red Blue Eyes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"I love it when night falls on hoboken." Reference to Yo La Tengo song 'Night Falls On Hoboken' ? |
CocoRosie – Animals Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Same sample at the beginning as used in "Brazilian Sun", no? |
Beth Orton – Conceived Lyrics | 18 years ago |
That is very true. This was the first Beth Orton song I heard and it really stuck with me - she just sings so beautifully about less-than-beautiful things, instantly giving it this strangely cinematic but also really real sense to it. I have no idea what I mean by that. |
Neko Case – Star Witness Lyrics | 18 years ago |
So which parts are which people, you reckon? Last verse is the mother, most probably - I'm not all too sure about the rest of it though. |
Rilo Kiley – More Adventurous Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I don't think Jenny's gay. She's going out with Jonathan Rice. |
Jenny Lewis – Handle with Care (Traveling Wilburys cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Ah, yeah - sorry - M. Ward indeed. Apologies for the cock-up, folks! |
Jenny Lewis – Rise Up with Fists!!! Lyrics | 18 years ago |
My current favourite track on her album - this is such a powerful song. The lyrics follow me all day until I next hear it, and all the following day afterwards. It's brilliant - some utter genius in songwriting. |
Jenny Lewis – Handle with Care (Traveling Wilburys cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Conor sings the "Everybody, needs somebody to lean on, Put your body next to mine and dream on." part :) |
Jenny Lewis – Rabbit Fur Coat Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yeah, this is all about Jenny's child actress days - and just general Hollywood madness, as she said in her interview with the Sunday Times. The "rabbit fur coat" is a metaphor for wealth and success which can be as easy to lose as it is to come by. Also, the line: "You treat your girl as your spouse." is about the way roles in families can be confused and reversed when the child is the one earning the most money as it was - and is - with child actors/actresses. A really beautiful songs, like all of the songs on Lewis' new album - but this one took a while to grow on me and figure out. Now it means a lot more for it. |
Rilo Kiley – A Better Son/Daughter Lyrics | 19 years ago |
yeah "rash decision" that's probably my favourite part out of it, though it's a tough choice. the lyrics just seem to get everything so right and honest without sugar-coating the truth at all or shouting it in your face. i don't know how they do it. |
Doves – Caught By The River Lyrics | 19 years ago |
all agreed. an optimistic song, and SUCH a great tune and intro. |
Rilo Kiley – It's a Hit Lyrics | 19 years ago |
lame, really? though it wasnt like the other rk songs that tend to perfectly articulate the most hard-to-explain emotions, i thought this was really clever in the way it bites at so many things in just one song. and i very much understand this part: "Any idiot can play Greek for a day and join a sorority or write a tragedy and articulating all that pain and maybe you'll get paid but it's a sin when success complains and your writers block, it don't mean shit " |
Rilo Kiley – A Better Son/Daughter Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i dont know, i didnt see it in the pessimistic way of seeing it, that it's ideals she'll never get round to acheiving. i think that there's always a chance she will and it's all about determination. you can hear the determination in her voice and it has a really sort of military-style drum beat in the background when it gets into it. it's a very very good song. very bittersweet. |
