Nevermore – I, Voyager Lyrics 17 years ago
There's more to it than that. I hear a lot of Nietzsche in this song, and on this particular album in general. He is not striving to become "something more than human" although you're close. He is saying he has experienced life, and his experiences have contributed to his philosophies and beliefs. You are human, so you can never be "more than human", but you can strive to be a "higher form" of human (Nietzsche called it the übermensch) that has freed himself/liberated his ego from popular morality. However, he is not saying "follow me to this new humanity" because that would negate the entire concept of the free spirit. Nietzsche said these people justify the existence of humanity.

Whether or not Dane meant for it to have that kind of meaning, that's what it makes me think, which is interesting.

Sonata Arctica – Misplaced Lyrics 18 years ago
It's about a guy who feels like he was born in the wrong time period. He feels that society today has no values, nothing he can identify with. He feels old fashioned for valuing honor, courage, and sacrifice. He feels like a "misplaced man".

Sonata Arctica – Ain't Your Fairytale Lyrics 18 years ago
This is a power metal band, it pretty much HAS to be about Werewolves.

submissions
Wintersun – Beautiful Death Lyrics 18 years ago
Obviously it's about a guy dying before he's ready. The greater message is that life is short, live it up.

submissions
Kalmah – The Groan of Wind Lyrics 18 years ago
Very obviously about the bird flu (H5N1) and mankinds inability to do anything about global pandemic.

R.E.M. – Try Not To Breathe Lyrics 18 years ago
The song could be about suicide... But I think it's more about someone's willingness to die in general. That they've lived a full life, so don't be sad when they die, they're ready anyway.

Sanctuary – White Rabbit Lyrics 18 years ago
A cover of Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit"

submissions
Sanctuary – Communion Lyrics 18 years ago
Despite being metal music, I find that Sanctuary was always a really positive band, unlike Nevermore later on which was much darker and more dismal. The main theme of this song: you are the master of your own destiny.

Nevermore – No More Will Lyrics 18 years ago
Dane (or the character) trying to forget about his dead/lost lover and move on, but finding it nearly impossible.

submissions
Nevermore – Bittersweet Feast Lyrics 18 years ago
Themes of censorship and conformity. Kind of cliche, but still a good song.

submissions
Nevermore – Deconstruction Lyrics 18 years ago
I kind of get a certain feel for this song. It makes me ask myself the question, "what happens after our society collapses?"

submissions
Nevermore – Cenotaph Lyrics 18 years ago
This is the point in the concept album where Dane's recurring dreams of his lost girlfriend/friend lying dead at the bottom of a lake come to the forefront.

If anyone's wondering, a cenotaph is a monument erected to a dead person whose remains have never been found/are in a different location.

Nevermore – Insignificant Lyrics 18 years ago
Kind of a song with a "Nothing matters" theme.

submissions
Nevermore – The Fault Of The Flesh Lyrics 18 years ago
Simple and straightforward. Man is imperfect. Our own flaws will be our undoing.

"We are destroyers and creators, our precious flaw"

Rush – Anthem Lyrics 19 years ago
Musically good, crap lyrics. Objectivism is junk philosophy.

submissions
Rush – The Fountain Of Lamneth Lyrics 19 years ago
The song is also liberally sprinkled with references to the drug LSD.

"Draw another goblet
from the cask of forty-three."

^ That being the main one, LSD was discovered/synthesized in 1943 by a Brazilian scientist.

Rush – Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres Lyrics 19 years ago
Yeah, it's another concept alluded to by Ayn Rand, one of the only good ones. Most of her rantings are just nuts.

Peart even took the characters from a Rand book.

submissions
Rush – The Trees Lyrics 19 years ago
Yes, it's a typical libertarian railing against egalitarianism. As is 2112. But Freewill isn't. Freewill is about what a sham religion is.

Neil is a very "soft" libertarian, he doesn't agree with all of it. Ayn Rand is shit in my opinion, but Rush is one of my favorite bands.

submissions
Rush – Subdivisions Lyrics 19 years ago
The song is about the need for conformity and mass consumerism in the capitalist society we live in. Modern capitalism cannot function without it. When I listen to it, I hear an amazingly written eulogy for society by Neil. I also think it represents Neil falling away a bit from his earlier beliefs, as he's mentioned he had.

R.E.M. – Oddfellows Local 151 Lyrics 19 years ago
Anytime you say "Something local ###" it's referring to a Union.

Other than that, I can't say anything concrete. Coule be some kind of Union meeting or something. Or a metaphorical union meeting. Who knows, It's Michael Stipe after all. That's why he's so great.

R.E.M. – Airportman Lyrics 19 years ago
The "people movers" part is probably talking about those flat, escalator-like conveyor belts in airports nicknamed PeopleMovers.

But yeah, definately about a businessman.

Slayer – Cast Down Lyrics 19 years ago
I think the whole "God Hates Us All" album shows how Slayer has matured and evolved. I'm sure they don't want to be remembered just as the guys who wrote songs about The Holocaust and Satan.

God Hates Us All can be summed up in one word: disillusionment.

submissions
R.E.M. – Orange Crush Lyrics 19 years ago
Actually, Stipe didn't say that. In the "In Time" album sleeve, Mike Mills (bassist) says "I must have played this song on stage over 300 times and I still don't know what the fuck it's about".

Agent Orange seems possible.

submissions
R.E.M. – Daysleeper Lyrics 19 years ago
In the "In Time" album sleeve, they describe it as a song about them. The one thing they all have in common is that they stay up recording late into the night and sleep during the day.

The Clash – Rudie Can't Fail Lyrics 19 years ago
No, this is a reggae influenced song.

Ska is also reggae influenced, so there are similarities.

submissions
The Clash – The Guns of Brixton Lyrics 19 years ago
Paul wrote and sang this song. Joe insisted that he sing it. On the London Calling DVD, Paul said he was always a reggae bassist at the core, so he wanted to write a song for that genre, and the other guys started to get into reggae around the same time, so it was all good.

The Clash – Spanish Bombs Lyrics 19 years ago
It is not about the ETA. I can see how some people would think that (from the title only), but it's about the Spanish Civil War, as has been mentioned.

Laibach – In The New Light Lyrics 19 years ago
This is an earlier song off of the "Rekapitulacija" album translated into English and put to different music. Same lyrics however. Just translated from Slovene to English. The original song is "Brat Moj" (Brother of Mine in Slovene).

Laibach – The Hunter's Funeral Procession Lyrics 19 years ago

German language version of the song "Life is Life" by Austrian 80s band "Opus".

Laibach – Le Privilege Des Morts Lyrics 19 years ago
I'd really like a comprehensive translation of this song. It's an enigma. It's very obviously in French, and obviously about money and economy. I really like the Kapital album.

submissions
Laibach – White Law Lyrics 19 years ago
The line "The chance won't come again" is the very central theme of this song. I think it referrs to a line in the very philosophically heavy manifesto inside of the Kapital album insert. I don't have it in front of me, so it's hard to tell exactly what chance won't come again according to Laibach. But, in their words, "If you don't understand it, burn it".

submissions
Laibach – Hymn To The Black Sun Lyrics 19 years ago
A major departure from usual Laibachian style. They had a guest MC on this track, not sure of his name(s). Nevertheless, good song off of a good and very experimental record.

submissions
Laibach – B Mashina Lyrics 19 years ago
Another cover. Milan Fras says on the new Laibach DVD that they covered this song because it deals with some favorite Laibachian subjects. Most notably the "final day" as Fras puts it.

Laibach – The Cross Lyrics 19 years ago
This is a cover of a Prince song.

submissions
Rammstein – Moskau Lyrics 19 years ago
My German is a bit shoddy, I was always more interested in the Slavic tongues... But can anyone clarify the actual meaning of the song? Is Till just writing a song expressing that he hates Moscow for some reason or other?

It's a nice city, by the way. The "Paris of the East".

submissions
Laibach – Get Back Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is widely believed to be a prediction on the imminent collapse of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which did collapse into disarray soon after.

submissions
Laibach – Regime Of Coincidence, State Of Gravity Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is made up entirely of samples from George Lucas's debeut movie "THX 1138". It was a complicated and philosophically deep "distopia" movie, in the tradition of Brave New World and 1984.

Also, these lyrics are wrong. "Take hesitation" should be "Take your sedation".

submissions
Megadeth – Peace Sells Lyrics 19 years ago
I tend to think this song is a little more political than you guys mention.

The "If there's a new way, I'll be the first in line" makes me think he's talking politics here again. I always saw it as Dave speaking from the perspective of a downtrodden member of the lower classes, speaking to the "status quo" American. You know, the guy with a big house in the suburbs, 4 cars and a boat.

submissions
Laibach – Panorama Lyrics 19 years ago
I can't figure out if this is a translated quote from Tito or if it was written by Laibach. But it definetely referrs to Yugoslavia and their non-aligned position.

Dream Theater – Finally Free Lyrics 19 years ago
Exactly, Metallican41. Most people never notice that "the witness" was the actual killer. This song is the key to understanding the Metropolis 2000 story.

Dream Theater – Fatal Tragedy Lyrics 19 years ago
Nicholas wasn't Victoria. He was Victoria's boyfriend. "The witness" mentioned in another song was the real murderer. It took me awhile to realize that.

Laibach – Vojna Poema Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this is a collaboration with one of the NSK's side projects, though I forget the name. They're the ones that did "Der Zivilisation" as well.

Laibach – Life Is Life Lyrics 19 years ago
Cover of a song by Austrian pop band Opus. They turned a happy European pop song into an industrial monster from behind the Iron Curtain.

submissions
Laibach – Drzava Lyrics 19 years ago
A very socialist anthem from the days of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. During that time, laibach became "super socialists" for reasons I'm not totally sure of. They were proud to serve the state.

submissions
Laibach – Geburt Einer Nation Lyrics 19 years ago
"gibt mir ein Leitbild" is actually better translated as "give me an idol". The song is meant to be very vague. It has very obvious Nazi overtones, for satirical purposes only.
