Veruca Salt – Volcano Girl Lyrics 20 years ago
whoa! major battle of the sexists here. This is a great song: Im pretty sure the song is about a break up and a category of girls [as they speak it]
who dont take easily to defeat....i should examine it more but i know one thing for sure-ppl need to stop worrying about the artists gender and start focusing on the music!

Bloodhound Gang – The Bad Touch Lyrics 20 years ago
the lyrics r pretty much self-explanatory. SEX SeX SEX...simple enough. I think though that while this is an obvious meaning ppl may miss the fact that the song contains another aspect of sex....we need to keep it simple. no relationships-just sex....its abnormal in tdays society to think like this, and perhaps, this is why i find it kinda funny.

Harvey Danger – Flagpole Sitta Lyrics 20 years ago
not a fan of punk but...here goes- This songs lyrics might seem simplistic but i really like em. I laugh my ass off sometimes when i listen to them. However, HD does have some true talent-the music in this song proves it. the lyrics prove they can be funny and moving at the same time. Seriously more ppl should listen to the message they have

Elton John – Tiny Dancer Lyrics 20 years ago
elton johns lyrics prove poetic once again- the way he describes how a man can love someone for so many different traits makes him an amazing lyricist. HEaring him sing the song makes u realize what a great musician he really he is.
The first 2 stanzas say much of what i mean. he makes it clear from the beginning that the man is in awe with this woman. he carries this forward, no glides it forward, with the music itself. Truly one of his best.

Pink Floyd – Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 2 Lyrics 20 years ago
Pink Floyd's music has always seemed to fight 'the establishment.' This particular song is great bc it continues adds so so much to "the wall." I believe ths song deals with conformity, yes. They make the point that the schools r detrimental to education bc they destroy confidence even while trying to provide the wealth of knowledge. Im not too familiar with british schooling but ive read quite a bit of british literature that deals with how poor the schools once were. Anywhore....any band that has worked as hard as pink floyd has to change society for the better deserves recognition-may their music rock on 4ever.

Incubus – Megalomaniac Lyrics 20 years ago
definitely not an incubus fan but these lyriics are rather good. I dont believe that the video dictates the exact meaning of the song, however. Infact, pyromonkey555 was probably right on the nails head. Modern times would suggest that this song was about a modern political figure....what if we looked at this song in 10,20,30, years? Anyway that general meaning seems to fit for me.
Also, edflint-u may be right about this sight being strictly for songmeaning and now that ive posted my thoughts i would challenge u to look at ur own comment....u verbally attacked another member bc he said conservatives suck. well thats his opinion and i wish he wouldve posted summin bout the song... but declaring that liberals r communists is ridiculous. stopping him from posting his opinion is a trait ultra-conservatives take-NOT LIBERALS... seriously read ur stuff before u click 'add'

Radiohead – Creep Lyrics 20 years ago
Its really different from their later work. Personally I like it better than their newer work.
The song appears to be about someone whos desires are stronger than his confidence. That i suppose is the rather obvious message. Hes a creep and the other isnt.... What i wonder is who the song is being sung to. Anyone know?

Paul McCartney – Maybe I'm Amazed Lyrics 20 years ago
I think hes reached a feeling of amazement in the relationship. It sounds like such an obvious statement but it does define the song.Paul is amazed bc he cant believe he has the woman he does; hes amazed that he needs her so much.. instead of relenting over the necessity he takes on a feeling of gratitude-one that, just maybe, will get him through the tough times hes in.

Dexys Midnight Runners – Come On Eileen Lyrics 20 years ago
Emerican skater is correct.....this is a about his childhood freind. A one-hit wonder? perhaps. But thisis one hit i dont soon wanna forget. After all its not often u hear irish folk songs combined with pop music.

Led Zeppelin – Stairway to Heaven Lyrics 20 years ago
slagonia and many MANY other ppl have made various shots at interpreting the songs. [duh, thats obvious].
without a doubt this song is a classic-one of my favorites. my guess is that the song is about materialism and our eternal desires for the physical.
BUT I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE those of u who love the chords and not just the wds to find a copy of london symphony orcestras version of this song....even if u dont like symphonic music ur jaw will drop when u hear it.

Nirvana – Come As You Are Lyrics 20 years ago
hey, diseased. i like ur idea about this bein about popular cliques. im glad someone suggested that....but how do u interperet the 'memoria' part. i know it refers to memories-could these be memories of himself/the character before he/she joined the clique? Then what about the gun comment? could that be about a suiciidal notion bc hes ashamed of what hes become?
im not tryin to debunk ur idea or anything-i just want to try and steer the conversation towards the songs meaning again-u kick ass 4 that. anyway if u return to this forum id appreciate it if ud respond with ur interpretation of those lines...

Silverchair – Ana's Song (Open Fire) Lyrics 20 years ago
i knew someone with this problem. when i heard it it reminded me of him. thing is i havent seen him in a long time and it worries me cuz he was suiciidal.

Anyway to keep with my tradition -of always flappin my mouth on and on....i would like to say this is a song that is obvioulsy about anorexia. what makes this song so great [besides the fact that it sounds realy cool] is that a] the writer actually suffered from the problem b] the writer/ singer is male. Male anorexia is very rare.[hence why it reminded me of my male freind who had it].
the fact that dan makes the anorexia a female entity is also significant bc it shows that most ppl think anorexia is a womens problem.....actually i dont know if he meant it to say that but, hell, its possible. what i can be certain of is that he poses the disease as a woman which makes this even more 'marketable' [i cant think of a better word right now] to the audience who were not yet his fans.....

Temple of the Dog – Hunger Strike Lyrics 20 years ago
Its a bit more obvious in meaning than some of the songs vedder had sung with pearl jam. This song is definitely one of the greatest songs of the grunge folllowing [as well as being one of the songs to giive birth to the "movement"]. I dont believe its too often that u find a grunge song that is depressing in a way but also reaches out to a noble cause[ this and "polly" bu nirvana would be exceptions]. I just wish his words would still be heard in hearts not ears for those of a greddy natures:" But I can't feed on the powerless
When my cup's already overfilled"

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Under the Bridge Lyrics 20 years ago
i know. i know. its obviously bout kedis' heroine problem. I think its great when musical artists write songs not bout drug abuse, which r usually songs that sound really bad anyway, but about how that drug addiction was./is a battle. It takes more gawl to admit u have a problem-gawl kedis definitely has. Still sometimes i wish this song was about lost loves, but the lyrics r too clear to indicate not......anyone feel the same way?

Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics 20 years ago
i know plenty of local bands in chicago here with record deals-they suck too....i also dont think u realize that kick-ass bands like Nirvana and Pearl jam grew great bc their music connected very well with the lyrics.[i mean the way "why cant it be mine" is sung. some say its mumbled i say its great]. U dont hear that these days-i really want to. so if ur band can do that-good. but, as the insult obviously implied, i am saying that in the case that ur the songwriter/frontman the band would be nothing more than a group of loud mouthed egotists. for the sake of tomorrows music i hope thats not the case.also i dont want to have to make verbal attacks on ppl expressing themselves[ something u did to winteronyx and others.we like a lot of the same music - ur pretty 'popular'/notorious site]. Anyway ill stop before i turn into same flappy hippocrite. This is, once again, an unforgettable grunge song.....lets let the music live on....long after cobain did.

R.E.M. – Daysleeper Lyrics 20 years ago
well i know the bull and the bear refer to the two different types of market conditions.. ..and i really like the idea of a deeper meaning so here goes: REM prolly uses the story of a shipping dept. worker, this man of the late shift, to emphasize the idea that society is non-stop. We are an anxiety ridden ppl, which i think was said earlier, and we tend to lose sight of the romanticism after the industrialized era... I may not agree with "pro-romanticism" and i dont really like REMs "soft" style but this song sounds amazing and the is, as much of REMs work has been, lyrical and poetic.

Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics 20 years ago
Great grunge classic about a troubled romeo....[the last lines are definitely my favrite pt,] I miss material this good having its root in pearl jam. I miss their early albums and their 'classics'. This song is a tribute-for me- when i listen to it tday of that depressing tone that can be carried through an otherwise romantic song. Amazing talent. Even the way staind performed it was amazing-they did pearl jam must justice. However it disturbs me to see that some insist that these new 'alternative' bands can match what was once the greatest revolution in music within my lifetime. i laughed my ass off when it was insisted that winteronyx was wrong to do such a detailed description of this song: THATS WHAT THIS SITE IS ALL ABOUT! Last i checked discussing song meanings was about the truth in lyrics....it doesnt really matter who did a cover of what or how u think one crappy band is better than another crappy band. I mean cmon mothra ur last comment was as egotistical as the shameless promotion of ur little band..[who if theyre anything like u will never be as good as artists like Creed or Pearl Jam or any bands like that]. Sure share ur opinions here ppl but lets keep it to the song [i know i know my rant sounds hypocritical but...its necessary here] and lets never...Please never...reach the point the prepubescent level of "stinkinfart"

Goldfrapp – Strict Machine Lyrics 20 years ago
from what i read the song is about being high on love. The writer is infatuated. However, the first time i saw a video rendition for this song on flashplayer.com i noticed the bass line-it seriously kicks ass! The bass line is made even better bc of the contrast between the low notes that fly within it and the high pitch of the singer... im not a fan of goldfrapp or dance music but this song is one of the best ive heard in a long time.

Live – Shit Towne Lyrics 20 years ago
i like how they write about their home town like that.also how the events surrounding the meaning of the song show that ppl change and live had the balls to go back to their town. on a more poetic stance the 1st verse shows how -in the US- we try to seclude ourselves from others with property lines and 'hard line symmetry'. i don know if ed meant it to reach out that far in the meaning but i can be sure he wanted listeners to relate to this type of mindset......

Live – Lakini's Juice Lyrics 20 years ago
i have no doubts this is about overindulgence. The live "more wine cuz i got to have it says a lot. overindulgence also covers the idea of obession-we want more and we have to have it. The whole bit about the river? well maybe it has to do with the river being the flow of the 'norms' in society. His 'obsessions' -whatever they may be- corrupt this flow. Just my thought.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Bullet with Butterfly Wings Lyrics 20 years ago
its a shame this song wasnt written for 'religous 'purposes. Im agnostic and i was usin this for kinda of an anthem [not that im lame enough to believe in some fuckin "anthem"]. Its one of my favorites though and im most positive its bout that trapped feeling. An uphill battle that theres really no pt in fighting cuz ur trapped.[like the muddy hills in the video perhaps]. the trapped feeling may also originate from a lack of understandin as indicated by the fact that he must fake something for another 'show' and that he is merely a rat in a cage. HE cant communicate and decides, for a second, to keep his cool like ol job.

Stone Temple Pilots – Creep Lyrics 20 years ago
its most likely about his addictions: that theory makes sense bc of the lines about the wounded hand, stealing [most likely in desperation], and no meanin just a rhyme.' the nmjr line may suggest that his life is somewhat predictable in that hell only do drugs again and hes lost his motivation bc of it. i think the last line about freinds not meaning a thing could suggest that hes lost what freinds hes had bc hes become a 'creep' y addict and his freinds dont really matter as much as the drugs.

Silverchair – Freak Lyrics 20 years ago
damn right....so many grunge/ early 90s alternative bands have turned from that angry, depressive tone many of us have grown to love. This song, obviously from silverchairs better days, is w/ o a doubt about not being able to fit in cuz ur differnent. a common but great theme for a song.

and dont tell me i dont know what its like to be a freak. this song would never be my anthem [a bit too, how u say, happy/sane for my tastes. the majority of ppl are freaks in their own manner. and, ladies and gentlemen, thats the beauty of life. thats was the pt of "revenge of the nerds" and the pt of so much of mainstream music [ironically].

sorry-got out on a tangent. last thing is wanna say is the interpretation for the second verse: we cannot escape from this freakishness and ,bc silverchair pts out the fact that its hopeless, it qualifies as a great grunge hit.

Pearl Jam – Better Man Lyrics 20 years ago
Its great how vedder can understand the problems of a battered woman. He describes it from a third peson omniscient perspective , that unless it was a burning issue to him, couldnt have been accomplished. However, i ? how much eddie, as a man, could really understand her plight; I mean hes not the only male who tries to comment on a mans abuse of his wife/gf. [another example is R DOYLES "the woman who walked into doors" which gives a very similar portrait]. I dont think eddie is gay at all but, once again stinkiin fart, LP is not god. they may sound good to u but they cant do everything perfect [they cant even play their own music that well for christs sake].

Blue Öyster Cult – Astronomy Lyrics 20 years ago
desdinovas point makes perfect sense.....and so does another great boc song. the talk of the hellish glare, the doors, and "the nexus of the crisis" are really clever. great to know boc is artistic enough to use music and poetic reference to help us remember a horrible tragedy.

Blue Öyster Cult – Don't Fear The Reaper Lyrics 20 years ago
no no no its definitely bout suicide. If u want a more cheery meanin n all i spose u could say its about staying together until death. but.............its most likely bout suicide a] "don't fear the reaper" b] progression of seasons. both love and these seasons are natural. together they pass-and i think the statement might be.......dont fear death cuz it takes time away from love. It aint my opinion but at least its my thought on a most excellent song-any thoughts on that?

The Smashing Pumpkins – Zero Lyrics 20 years ago
I like geek UKs Comment. Dont know if its right but....nonetheless this stands as one of my favorite SP songs cuz in can be taken as an attack on organized religion. It also releases a lot of tension for the listener. Any 'quotes' on the real meaing of this song though?

Nirvana – Dumb Lyrics 20 years ago
jaxx57 u read my mind. However, i dunno if ignorance is bliss can be read dircectly w/o explanation. I think, as a grunge fan, that Cobain was trying to hit on the idea that some of us with we were ignorant enough to feel the bliss others do. OF COURSE thats not the whole meaning of the song but its a concept that stands strong in interpretation. The idea of it being about a boy with a drug problem is very plausible; i like that idea bc it really fits. Sadly-this is all too common story in the teenage US culture.

Oasis – Wonderwall Lyrics 20 years ago
Not an oasis fan at all but this song is amazing. To me it means not being able to tell someone how much they mean to you.I especially like the lines concerning travel/the ligthts and the lives "you're gonna be the one that saves me." Ive been listenin to it all night cuz im missin my prom and it was my last day o hs......guess sometimes the wonderwall crumbles ,eh?

Pearl Jam – Even Flow Lyrics 20 years ago
I like how eddie vedder had created this song from real life experience. turniin everyday occurences or events and turning them into something is a clear sign of an artist. BUT JESUS CHRIST...how could some of u be so god damn homo phobic. And how in hell could u say Eddie sux and LP rules. Linkin Park is one of those pussy new age alternative bands that ruins the very defintion of great alternative music-their music makes me sick. I wont even comment on the Creed comment...cuz Creeds still pretty okay.

Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics 20 years ago
yrs ago pkjun made a great comment. truth is it couldnt be about AIDS as it was originallly written. However, i feel that if someoone wants to interpret this as a song about Mercury's greatest battle then let em [provided we point out it wasnt originally about the AIDS and so forth bla bla bla]. Also thanx to Wyrm for that final enlightenment there-if its true well then mystery solved after all. I can definitely see how it couldve been written in sections. i sing with an a cappella gp and we just did this song. when we were learning it we had to do it in sections. though the result was kickass[ in that in flowed and blended well]- it was still a matter of cut and paste, cut and paste.
