The Mars Volta – Asilos Magdalena Lyrics
|
I don't know if anyone actually corrected you people, but I figured I'd put in my two cents. This song is based on an actual person, a possessed nun, whom Cedric read about in a newspaper somewhere. She was being held in an actual mental institution called Asilos Magdalena. The beginning of the song is speaking from her viewpoint, but Cedric is also relating himself to her, feeling possessed and unclean through drug use and dishonesty. The chorus is the nun speaking to Samael, saying that she is consumed by the darkness/the dark one, and when they met in the rain, she was promised eternal life through evil. She DIDN'T stay. The second verse is not her abandoning God, but rather crying out for His help, asking why she has been abandoned when she has carried a sword in His name for so long, through so many hardships. She is finding it hard to keep her faith, and has pretty much given up by the end of the second verse, feeling abandoned and hopeless, sleeping in Hell for Hell is the only apparent truth with this lack of holy guidance. By the end of the song is saying that she is following, or more so hunting, Samael, and if she dies possessed, evil, then that's how it's going to be. Just my opinion based on interviews I've read with Cedric about the content of the entire album. |

No, I think the handle in the hand is supposed to signify the handle of a slot machine. And it's definitely a metaphor for bad habits more than just a single one. |

The Mars Volta – Meccamputechture Lyrics

To me, the whole album is about the fact that people have misinterpreted Jesus. A lot of the songs seem to take place directly after he dies, so it could be about the beginning of it all. I think that Cedric is really trying to say that even as Jesus was doing his thing, no one really got what he meant and he (Cedric) tried to place himself in the time directly following Jesus' crucifixion and then go through time to the present and highlight some specific instances. |

Oingo Boingo – Same Man I Was Before Lyrics

Agreed. Such a good song, and I think it's about how he's kind of lost in his identity. He feels different, older maybe, but he hasn't changed his views or the way he sees the world. He still sees it through the wide eyes of a little boy, but he's no longer a kid and isn't quite sure how to handle it. |

Talking Heads – (Nothing But) Flowers Lyrics

David Byrne can be very ambiguous, so I find it easier to just feel his/talking heads music instead of trying to interpret it. Great song though, just makes me want to dance and smile in fields of flowers. Then go get a Blizzard from DQ. |

At 21:12, mariah runs away from coheed. Coheed and Cambria are supposed to kill Mariah and her siblings. IRO-bots were created to keep the peace...this is what I've pieced together from the comics and such. |

I think it's about a chick leaving him for his best friend and him blaming himself for not being quite the man that he could be for her. His best friend has done it to him before, and he feels like he could have done something about it, but instead he just hurts himself. |

Cake – Wheels Lyrics

In a seedy karaoke bar
By the banks of the mighty Bosphorus
Is a Japanese man in a business suit
Singing "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes"
And the muscular cyborg German dudes
Dance with sexy French-Canadians
While the overweight Americans
Wear their patriotic jumpsuits
so good. cake's lyrics are always so meaningless, yet so meaningful. awesome song. |
