Lou Reed – Walk on the Wild Side Lyrics 18 years ago
This song ISNT about a heroin dealer, its about some of the drag queens in Andy Warhol's Factory. I don't think anyone pointed this out yet, but Sugar Plum Fairy is actor Joe Campbell. Also, I'm pretty sure Lou Reed never shared needles with Andy Warhol. I can't recall ever hearing that Andy Warhol mainlined.

The Velvet Underground – That's The Story Of My Life Lyrics 18 years ago
The Billy mentioned in ths song refers to Billy Name who was the Factory's unofficial photographer, Andy Warhol's boyfriend, and later Lou Reed's. During the Factory years Lou Reed and Billy Name were interested in matters of the occult and Billy would often state things like that. When Billy Name locked himself in the Factory's darkroom for a year (letting only Lou Reed and a few others in) Lou Reed claimed that he regretted ever getting Billy interested in astrology and magic.

Is it just me or does this song sound VERY Dylan-inspired?

The Velvet Underground – Jesus Lyrics 18 years ago
Always reminds me of the old folk songs. Yes, Lou Reed was Jewish (or at least raised Jewish) but look at all the old "pre-reborn" bob dylan songs that have Christian overtones.

The Velvet Underground – Femme Fatale Lyrics 18 years ago
Yep, femme fatale IS about Edie Sedgwick. Andy Warhol told Lou to write a song about her because he thought she was a "femme fatale."

The Velvet Underground – Candy Says Lyrics 18 years ago
Sorry SIsterRay, but Stephaniesays is right. The song is about Candy Darling, who was also part of Andy Warhol's Factory, along with Lou Reed and a lot of people mentioned in Reed's lyrics. I've always interpreted the line

"Candy says I hate the big decisions
that cause endless revisions in my mind"

to be about the sex change operation that Candy had wanted but never got. Unfortunately, Candy died of leukemia at the age of 25. Such a a sad and meloncholy song since it mentions "getting older" which Candy never got to do.

Beautiful song.

The Velvet Underground – Andy's Chest Lyrics 18 years ago
Lou Reed wrote this song for Andy Warhol to cheer him up after he was shot by Valerie Solanis. It's many just a silly song to make him laugh but also tell Andy that he still cared about him, because they did have a sort of falling out.

Sinead O'Connor – I Am Stretched on Your Grave Lyrics 19 years ago
okeee, you might think that your vinyls make you "so cool" but the whole point of this site is to discuss possible meanings of the songs! not tell what you own, cuz no one else cares about that.

so does anyone know the story behind this song? do you think its really about someone who died or is it symbolic of something else?

Beth Gibbons – Tom The Model Lyrics 20 years ago
okay so i heard this song and it reminded me of this other song where a guy sings "i feel my body break" and i can't figure out who it is. so if you're reading this and know who, post it please! it sounds alot like this song's chorus

Sublime – Pool Shark Lyrics 20 years ago
This is such an AWSOME song. i don't care for the punk version because it lacks emotion but the acoustic version is one of the best songs i've ever heard. The live version is amazing too. I can't imagine singing something so sad and personal up on a stage. Can you imagine singing that you know your addiction is going to kill you in front of everyone. its just amazing and powerful. as for the "dinosaur", he must be referring to the tourniquet. I've never heard of anyone referring to it as a dinosaur but that could also just be brad's own slang.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Purple Haze Lyrics 20 years ago
oh yeah and as for what stupidpunk said i definately don't think this song is about weed, but that's just me. i just don't care for people saying "this is what the song is about" when they don't actually know for sure. So if you haven't heard what the writer said its about you can't claim that your ideas are definate.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Purple Haze Lyrics 20 years ago
ya ever come across a line in a song and wish you wrote it? Thats how i feel about "Scuse me while I kiss the sky". i can totally understand it, ya ken? Before i came hear and heard all these people talking about it being about a dream i had a different idea. I've noticed that when an artist is known for doing drugs everyone interprets their songs as being about drugs but try and read this song again and think of being lovestruck. it sounds just like if he was love struck or just completely euphoric about something. By the way, Filth, i've never heard of weed being called purple haze but then again i don't live in north carolina. but did you ever think that maybe you guys call it purple haze because of the song? slang words always come from somewhere and because this song is often associated with drug use, i could see that happening.

Sublime – Work That We Do Lyrics 20 years ago
i just love this song, especially "I've got fourteen miles to go
I've got rhythm, common sense
I've got the soul " and "And now in '94 were gonna lie some more
In 1994 were going to die some more" parts.

Sublime – Perfect World Lyrics 20 years ago
this is definately one of my favorite sublime songs. it's about how messed up the world is. the whole "perfect world" thing is sarcastic but also used to describe how some people just put on their rose-colored sunglasses and pretend everything is fine.

Thanks Badfish64, i thought that a deuce deuce was a .22 also, but then a friend tried to tell me it was a 40 oz which makes no sense at all. how do you get 40 out of two two. oh well, i guess some people are just too obsessed with alcohol.

as much as i love Sublime i have only hatred for this "song". It lacks musically, but mostly i have no respect for people who drive drunk.

this is a cover of Slightly Stoopid, a band that was inspired by sublime and i think on their label too. wouldn't that be cool? to have your label band want to cover you.

This is a cover of Depoche Mode. I think its just about how sometimes words can just get in the way and how alot of times what people say isn't true and "can only do harm"
