I never understood that lyric either. Yours does make more sense but I can't find it that way anywhere else. I think these lyrics just get propagated through to the other sites. I'm with you, though. This is how I'm playing it from now on.

To me that dovetails with the opening line of "I gotta feeling we are gonna win" since he finishes the stanza with "the music was there at the start." To my mind, he's saying that he understands that she can only truly love if certain elements are present. She doesn't want a love that she can't sing [a poetic interpretation of being able to immerse and express bliss and flow], but in their case the music [a poetic interpretation for a specific kind of spark and connection] was there from the start and has only continued to build. This is why he has a feeling that they are going to win.
Am I an idiot for thinking that it's supposed to be
"I know you don't want A love you can sing"?
Iunno, it just makes more sense to me. Like, she doesn't want a love that can be put down in words. Whatever.

Same here. Cheers.

I have to agree, with a slight change. I hear:

Just a thought!
@Alliiee The sentence is a bit weird but I suppose it's correct. I just read an interview where he says:" It was about that little bit before you can really say, “I love you”. But you can say, “I'm into you"…" thethousands.com.au/melbourne/hear/an-interview-with-chet-faker
