It's a bittersweet song about a fading fairy tale. Feeling like you loved someone but after getting to know them, watching the pedestal you placed them on shrink while the image you originally had of them fades. Seeing their true colors but wishing it weren't true....
Having so much faith in who you THINK someone is, not wanting to face the reality of how they're human just like everyone else. If there are no damsels in distress, no princesses, no happy endings then just shoot me. It's hard enough to be a human being. Waiting for someone to bring light into a dark world is dangerous. A hopelessly hopeful beautiful song.
