Lyrics for True Colors as interpreted by xJoeBoothx

True Colors Lyrics
You with the sad eyes
Don't be discouraged
Oh i realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small

But i see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And thats why i love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a Rainbow

Show me a smile then,
Don't be unhappy, can't remember
When i last saw you laughing
If this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know i'll be there

And i see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And thats why i love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a Rainbow

It means faith in friendship, the courage of being true to your real self, to pull through this wild world and shine. I would sing this song whenever I feel the world is crushing me with its indifference, superficiality and hate.

Brilliant, though honestly I like Phil Collins' version better. Same lyrics, but with an interesting set of drums. Personally, I think the song also shows the love from one to another, even in difficult times. True colors must represent the character of the one, while the other keeps seeing them, even in unpleasant times.

I adore this song like nobody's business but Phil Collin's version is really cheesy. Cyndi sings it like no one else can.

This version makes my head hurt, seriously. It it not at all comparable to Phil Collins' version of it! Either way, though, the lyrics are absolutely heart warming and amazing! I couldn't have written my life story better myself! LOL! It reminds me of my ex-worst enemy, now closest friend. I feel like when I gave her a chance, I was priviliged enough to see her "true colors". :) ~Kami*

This song relates to me, how my own family thinks I'm a terrible person but I know I'm not, I know I'm a wonderful person.

It's so beautiful, about sticking by someone you care about no matter what, because you see who they really are, although others may not

This song is about her sister who was a lezbian.
I guess supposibly her sister wasn't accepted by a lot of people in her family and others.
But her sister was saying that she could see her true colors, and she was beautiful just the way she was.

She was saying that she would always be there for her, no matter what. She loved her, and didn't care if she was a 500 lb. gorilla, she would always love her for who she was.

This song is really pretty.
I first heard it on that Dove commerical or something last year, when all the little girls are singing it and stuff. It was really touching and cute. anyways, great song.

I don't like the Phil Collins version. Nothing could come close to Cyndi's version IMO... I actually prefer how she sings it now to back in the 80s.

It's a classic

This song was used by UK television station channel 4 as the bed for a montage of the painful moments (emotional and physical) of the American football season, played after the superbowl.

It was in the late '80s, can't remember exactly, but it had me in tears. I worked out what the song was (harder in those pre-internet days) and since then I've bought all the albums and fallen in love with quite a few of Cyndi's songs.

This one has always been one of the song's I return to when I'm down, in a similar vein the Don't Give Up by Gabriel/Bush. Processed pop, but still has real soul at it's roots.

I love tis song. I sent it via letter to this girl who i decided was my inspiration for 4 years...that crush didnt quite work out, and there were lots of teas and ridiculous; she was pretty fucked up in a lot of ways but allways managed to make me smile despite making me cry. I moved outa the country and gave this to her, cuz she is just as beautifully zainy as cyndi lauper herself, and I really hope she liked it. I could picture her singing me the song.

I can't hear this song anymore without coming close to tears... I thought I could see my boyfriends true colors, even though everybody warned me... I didn't find out until yesterday, when I came home from work to find my 3 year old daughter left alone in our apartment ...when he was supposed to be babysitting her. He had left to go find heroin, and got arrested on the way home as he pulled into our parking lot. I guess I couldn't really see anything.

The is about a person to afraid to be themselves because of how the world might see them. And a friend telling them to just be yourself. They will accept them for who they are because they are a beautiful person. Spiritually not physically.

I agree that cyndi's version is so much better than Phil Colin's.
