The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.
You in your fancy
Material world
Don't see the links of chain
Binding blood
Our own ancestors
Are hungry ghosts
Closets so full of bones
They won't close
Call it upward mobility
But you've been sold down the river
Just another form of slavery
And the whole man-made white world
Is your master
You in your fancy
Material world
Create in your own image
A supreme god
Your virgin Mary
Your holy ghosts
Claimed to be pure of heart
Have hands that are stained with blood
You in your fancy
Material world
Don't see the links of chain
Binding

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
American Town

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
For Passover Jesus ate lamb/goat. If meat is good enough for Jesus, it's surely good enough for me:) As for what the dental profession (Yes, the dental profession) calls the "canine teeth," they are part of evolution. We graduated from eating nuts; berries; leaves etc to meat. Just loved your fruit comment. Yes, it's mighty difficult to rip into a peeled banana or a peach without having pointy teeth;) Not sure about the Barbie reference, but most individuals stop playing with them before they reach adolescence. As for the song, I love the artist but the song is sacreligious and frankly quite stupid. The Virgin Mary is pure. The mother of God is not responsible for how flawed humans choose to live. We have to take full responsiblity for our personal choices. God gave us free will and we often screw it up royally. Quite frankly, your final analysis that this song points to God being a vegan/vegetarian is just plain...well, bananas:)
@interpretationdechanson it’s a reference to how many people have died in the name of religion, mainly Christianity. We claim that the Virgin Mary and a myriad of other figures in religious text are pure, meanwhile “if you don’t believe in the god I believe in, I’ll kill you.” We often misconstrue, which is easy to do when most religious texts are just one big game of telephone. Constant translation and twisting of the stories to fit our narrative have corrupted us. Much like materialism. Bananas make good food for thought.
This song speaks of how we've come to believe in "The American Dream" of materialism. In doing so we often don't see that we've fallen into a (white) man made trap of being a slave to our jobs, corporations and to the idea of "needing" more money
I'm not sure what she means when she says:
Your virgin Mary Your Holy Ghosts Claimed to be pure of heart Have hands stained with blood
Alot of things point towards Jesus/ Virgin Mary, being vegetarians, or vegans.
LOL...take a look at who/what you date to make yourself feel like a man then get back to me about who is the material one. You slam capitalism daily because you don't believe you have as much as others (or as much as you're owed), yet it's your habits that deplete your wallet. When's the last time you saved money? You wear your secondhand clothes to try to prove to others that you're not materialistic, but you're more superficial than most. Just look at how you live your life.

And for gawd's sake, look at your f-ing canine teeth near the frong of your mouth. They aren't pointing just for the hell of it!
FRONT and POINTY! Oh, who the fuck cares.
Hey Bringonthemusic20 What re you implying?
..and stop talking about yourself. You obviously don't know anything, about this song, and me..
and I forgot to educate you, a little on the "front teeth" issue:
Our pointy teeth, is for biting into hard fruit and vegetables, and for grinding nuts, and seeds, with our side teeth.
Now that you know this little fact, you can run back to the little kids, in the nursery, over there, and play with your Barbie and Ken again, (with "Barbie girl", playing in the back ground) Because let's face it, they're never poor right?... You probably did't know, that whatever you accuse other beings of doing, it's usually the flaws, you posses yourself.
Gosh! Talking random shit, about people, you obviously don't know shit about, makes me think. You need doctor, for your mental health. You might wanna consider getting that help, before it gets too late. ROFL
