Home is where I want to be
Pick me up and turn me around
I feel numb, burn with a weak heart
Guess I must be having fun

The less we say about it the better
Make it up as we go along
Feet on the ground, head in the sky
It's okay, I know nothing's wrong, nothing

I got plenty of time
You got light in your eyes
And you're standing here beside me
I love the passing of time
Never for money, always for love
Cover up and say goodnight, say goodnight

Home, is where I want to be
But I guess I'm already there
I come home, she lifted up her wings
I guess that this must be the place

I can't tell one from the other
I find you, or you find me?
There was a time before we were born
If someone asks, this is where I'll be, where I'll be

We drift in and out
Sing into my mouth
Out of all those kinds of people
You got a face with a view

I'm just an animal looking for a home
And share the same space for a minute or two
And you love me till my heart stops
Love me till I'm dead

Eyes that light up
Eyes look through you
Cover up the blank spots
Hit me on the head

General Comment:As has been mentioned before, David Byrne's quote in the Stop Making Sense self-interview is one of my favourite of his for sure:
"I have written a love song, though. In this film I sing it to a lamp."

I can't remember exactly which interview it was, but I'm sure I remember David Byrne mentioning that the 'Naive Melody' subtitle is a reflection of the fact that a lot of musicians would consider the underlying melody particularly simple or 'naive' . As he explains, mostly because it's the same few notes cycled through which are played by both the guitar and the bass simultaneously.

I think how synonymous the track has become with weddings or to being 'our song' for couples is a true testimony to how true a love song it is. Not that I witnessed it at the time, but I also loved the idea of having a priest come up and marry people on the stage while David Byrne sung the song in Las Vegas!

General Comment:This song is so beautiful and so sweet that it makes me want to cry. I guess all I can think to say about it is, it's a love song. About finding that feeling of being home in a person, about spending time with this person and never wanting it to end. My favorite lyrics are:

"Home, is where I want to be
But I guess I'm already there.
I come home, she lifted up her wings
I guess that this must be the place."

I love the live version from Stop Making Sense. Not only does it sound better than the studio version, but I love the visuals. The only light comes from a lamp onstage and when it's first turned on, the screens behind the band light up with images of books in a bookshelf. Seeing that always makes me think of my father's house and how he always has a lamp turned on in his bedroom to illuminate the books in his bookcase. Also, I never realized that I wanted to be a lamp until I saw the video... ;)

My Interpretation:I don't think this is a love song as much as it is about finding a home, feeling at home, arriving. The love of a woman, it turns out, is such an integral part of that for David Byrne -- but the woman isn't the end, but a vital component in the larger scheme: home. The words "home", "place", "space" are littered throughout the lyrics and the title. It sounds like David Byrne has been on a search (this is kind of evident throughout the album as well) for where he belongs and how he fits into the world and society. His often manic lyrics result from the dissonance he feels with who he is, how the world works, how he's at odds with it. So, finding a "home" a "place" a "space" takes on extra meaning. A loving companion is what's necessary to achieve that, but the song is much more than a love song. It's finding a small place in the world where he's found his way and feels at home.

General Comment:A lovely song about the naive ways of lovers, the feeling of love and those moments when you come out of the haze, realise you're in a love-struck moronic state, and just want someone to hit you on the head and tell you wake up to yourself, but you won't until the fuzzy haziness of love passes. Amazing song, amazing video with a lamp, and just gorgeous.

General Comment:to me this song is talking about his first love and how he miss being there. he is talking about being high he knows using drug is wrong but at the same time this must be the place. the talk of woman is just a metaphor for drug. he say he is numb, sing a song in his mouth, and he was singing to a lamp the guy is true fully talking about his love hate relationship with the battle of his drug addiction. no one wants to say it but i will. the truth will set you free

My Interpretation:The song is about a guy realizing that the woman he is spending "time" with is the one. He is almost in disbelief - like that happy, settled place is a big rumor. Almost as if he could believe in such a place but he never believed he'd get there.

It's a great song because it demonstrates that phase where a man has just fallen for a woman, going against his natural self and just having a ball with his mate.

It is heart-wrenching considering the reality - that over time, the chemicals that surge during this phase will settle down. It is like your time getting high on ecstacy. You don't quite believe that a pill can make you feel happy. So you say sure, try it, and then there you are. Feeling nothing but love for everyone and everything. It's not a rumor after all. You are right there...at least for a relatively short period of time. And you spend the rest of your life chasing that moment, that feeling - but it is a unique time. Everything after that could be objectively better but it is that one moment that is burned in your mind to be the best time.
