I can see in your eyes that you mean it.
I can feel in your arms that it's true.
And though I just heard myself say it,
Baby, I'm lying to you.

All of these years you've been lonely,
And knowing not what you should do.
And though you are right, I've been looking as well.
Babe, I'm not looking for you.

I'm just as damn disappointed as you,
Only I just do better to hide it.
And the one thing that keeps me from falling for you,
Is I'm truly alone and I like it.

As we lie in bed I feel lonely,
Though we're young, I feel eighty years old.
And your arms around me are keeping me warm.
But baby, I'm still feeling cold.

And girl you must know you are lovely,
You're kind and you're beautiful too.
And I feel in some way I do love you
But babe, I'm not in love with you.

It may seem strange that still I stay with you,
If it's true you're not really the one.
And why don't I just keep on looking for her?
Because I found her and now she is gone.

I actually cried the first time I heard this song. He goes the entire song saying how he doesn't really love this woman he is with and how he never can or will. Then, in the last line, he reveals why that is:

"It may seem strange that still I stay with you, if it's true you're not really the one. And why don't I just keep on looking for her? Because I found her and now she is gone."

He had "the one." But now she is gone, whether she died or just left him. And now he knows he can never truly love anyone else like he loved this woman, so he'll be lonely for the rest of his life.

    My Interpretation

This song really brings tears to my eyes because it reminds me of two of my exes. The first one was the most perfect girl I could ever hope for. She was my dream girl and all I've ever wanted. We were in love but it didn't work out because of some issues with her family. She was my first love and the first girl I ever said "I love you" to. I was 19 at the time and she was 18. We both cried when we broke up and deep down in my heart I know I would never love anyone as much as I love her.

So when I started dating a new girlfriend (2nd Ex) if just never felt the same. We would both lay in bed with each other but I felt disconnected. She would tell me all the time that she loved me but I know I didn't feel the same. We were in a relationship but I felt truly alone. And when I was physically alone, I liked it. She was a beautiful and lovely girl but i had to break up with her because I didn't want to keep lying to someone I truly knew I couldn't see the rest of my life with.

What breaks my heart so much is that I'm not even driven anymore to find "the one" because like Keaton said: I found her but now she is gone.

i think he really loved another girl in the past, he tried to love this lovely new girl, but he couldn't really forget "the other one", knowing he would never be with "the one" again (cause she's gone) he´s much better alone.

    My Interpretation

I find it really sad song, really is. I mean, the way it made me cry.. it's obviously talking about a wrong love in someone's life that kept going though both partners know they shouldn't, or maybe one of them knows and knows it's not the truth but "lying to" the other for fear of hurting them.

"I can see in your eyes that you mean it. I can feel in your arms that it's true. And though I just heard myself say it, Baby, I'm lying to you."

there, maybe it's the first time, when he accepts her, looking at her as if everything is okay and real, she tells him what she feels and hold him fully in love. And he goes along with her and say it back, but he knows deep inside he isn't.

"All of these years you've been lonely, And knowing not what you should do. And though you are right, I've been looking as well. Babe, I'm not looking for you."

they both seem to finally find each other after many years of lonliness. And it looks like they are the rescuers of each other. But for him, yes he is lonely and tired and searching for love, but actually she's not the one.

"I'm just as damn disappointed as you, Only I just do better to hide it. And the one thing that keeps me from falling for you, Is I'm truly alone and I like it."

when it comes to these lines, it seems that both know eventually they are wrong in being together. Maybe they are tired and bored with each other. She's just as disappointed as him but he hides it and pretend while she keeps weeping (I can relate this part so much to the couples who married and by degrees got bored of each other) But however, he's not really in love with her and feels better being without her.

"As we lie in bed I feel lonely, Though we're young, I feel eighty years old. And your arms around me are keeping me warm. But baby, I'm still feeling cold."

Those lines tell the same, just some proof he doesn't feel safe and secure in this love, doesn't feel the warmth he must have felt.

"And girl you must know you are lovely, You're kind and you're beautiful too. And I feel in some way I do love you But babe, I'm not in love with you."

Those lines are literally the ones that made me cry :) after all he's said. And I think they are breathtaking. He tells her how lovely and beautiful she is. She is perfect and everything. But he's just not in love with her. Maybe he's saying something to relieve her, that it's not her fault. He just can't help it.

    Song Meaning

The song is written about how he prefers being alone, and that he wishes that he could love her the way she loves him, he only realises how much he really does love her at the end of the song when he goes to chase after her, and she is gone...

    My Interpretation

I feel this song describes the point which some relationships can reach after both parties change for the worse. hence the verse

"It may seem strange that still I stay with you, If it's true you're not really the one. And why don't I just keep on looking for her? Because I found her and now she is gone"

The person he writes about was "the one" but now she has gone (ie changed into someone else) and touches on his the idea that there is only one person for every one :) thats my opinion anyway :)

My loneliness has brought me to number of descent artists such as Cigarettes after Sex, Secondhand Serenade, etc. and now it is Keaton Henson.

    My Interpretation

I think that Keaton is talking about the fact that the woman he is singing to was the one, but then he fell out of love with her. Now he no longer truly belives in love because this woman who used to be his everything is not anymore. He feels hopeless that he will ever feel about anyone the way he felt about her, so he stays with her. There is nothing else out there for him, only her, but her as she used to be. 'The One' for him is just a memory now.

    Memory

This is one of the most heart wrenching songs I have ever heard my whole life. I cried the moment I first heard the first stanza of this song. This is my ex's song about our relationship. This song made me realize that everything that made me happy and hopeful about our relationship was all just a big lie.

This song starts with a narration of the guy of not being true about the relationship he has with his girlfriend because he finds comfort in his solitary world. The most heartbreaking part of the song is where the guy says that he may show love (to some degree) to his girlfriend, but he's not totally in love with her.

I may be broken right now because of the lies I had believed in my previous relationship, but I know that one day I will appreciate the lessons my relationship has taught me.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
