Love was the air in your mother’s lungs,
When her father tore her fences down,
Plastic bags and panadol was out.

Love with your sold Gibson 335,
And her father’s dream died that night,
Just to keep the electricity on.

And it’s the darkest side of my heart that dies when you come to me,
And it’s the golden ticket I win when you kill my enemies,
I hear the father’s cry and the softest sigh when I’m empty,
But if you leave me I’ll hide in a game like SimCity.

Oh when I die I’m alive,
And when I lose I find,
My identity.

Son if I died on my bedroom floor,
Would you cry on your bedroom floor?
And tattoo my name underneath your arm.

Love that was alive in the olden days,
And put to death in this golden age,
By a colour TV.

And it’s the darkest side of my heart that dies when you come to me,
And it’s the golden ticket I win when you kill my enemies,
I hear the father’s cry and the softest sigh when I’m empty,
But if you leave me I’ll get me gone and drowned face down muddy in the water.

Oh when I die,
When I die,
Die I’m alive,
When I lose I find,
My identity.

Love was those dark clouds on the Friday,
It was a holy shaking earthquake,
And you were stuck up in the tree.

And it’s the darkest side of my heart that dies when you come to me,
And it’s the golden ticket I win when you kill my enemies,
I hear the father’s cry and the softest sigh when I’m empty,
But if you leave me I’ll hello goodbye I’m shining knight look I’m deadman.

Oh when I die,
When I die,
When I die,
When I die I’m alive,
When I lose I find,
My identity.

According to Rohin Jones of The Middle East, who wrote the song:

"verse one. my mothers father killed himself when she was ten years old. her upbringing before that event was hellish to put it kindly. her father and sister were schizophrenic, which meant the money and attention of her mother and family was poured into them. she and her sister had severe malnutrition and health problems. her fathers tore her fences down is a picture of the effect of that event (and another) which stripped her of her ability to function as a person. when i was 17 my family had been going through hell for about 7 years at a particular church. ma was working about 50 hours a week for nothing in a pretty vulnerable environment under a person who i guess was a father figure. and dad was working as a groundsman for next to nothing. that environment had a similar effect on her as her upbringing. this is the second father. (in the lyric it is fathers). after a particularly damaging incident ma came home locked her self in her room with a packet of panadol and a plastic bag and was going to kill herself. the thought of her fathers suicide and the effects it had on her and her love for me and my siblings was the only thing she said stopped her. she only told me a couple years later.

the song is about the few incidents in my life where love has been truely communicated to me. i may share more in the future."

This song, to me, highlights the progress and current state of society and touches on family and their sacrifices

I think this song is about two parents trying to raise and support their kids. Where it says "Love with your sold Gibson 335, And her fathers dream died that night, Just to keep the electricity on." I take that as their dad selling his guitar. he has a dream of making music but gives it up to keep the electricity on and family going and the "love was alive in the olden days, put to death in this golden age by a coloured tv" is the parents who are so sad from struggling to keep their family going and buying goods like new tvs that the love is gone. Just how I see it. Either way all Middle East songs are hauntingly beautiful

The first three lines are about a child being conceived. Plastic bags & panadol meaning contraception. Next paragraph, the father sells his guitar and gives up his musical dream because the family needs money.

Agreed. It's really strange to hear a SimCity reference in such a pure, beautiful folk song.

This song is so beautiful, everything about it. It's all about love. Not mushy gushy love, but what is truly love and what people will do for someone just because they love them.

    Song Meaning

I think that the song shows how parents have given up everything for their kids but the kids take it for granted and all of the parents' hard-work to help them and make them happy go to waste and the kids only realize that once the parents have gone.

    So what does this mean?

When I die I’m alive, When I lose I find, My identity.

My guess is judgement in the afterlife.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
