Also I hear "don't wanna be a man" the first time. And I'm thinking it's something like "aphid empire" or "apex empire" instead of epic.

Reminds me of Hissing Fauna, so that makes me happy. Weird gender issues and stuff, I guess from Georgie Fruit and all.

I wasnt sure about "epic," its really hard to make out what he's saying right there.

Skeletal Lamping is going to be so good. I can't wait. It'll be cool to see how the new List Christee persona is different from Georgie.

I've also read "8-bit empire" somewhere but I'm not really sure that makes anymore sense than epic, aphid, or apex. I guess I could also see a mispronunciation of effete.

they do it again and again...this song is so awesome. i've had it on repeat for days! i am just thrilled for the new album. as well as being super catchy and danceable, the lyrics are very smart as per usual. love it. kevin barnes is genius.

Haha, I think he mispronounced 'tyranny' in this song...

Not that I care, it's amazing all the same. One thing that's always interesting about OM is that they manage to make even a danceable, poppy song sound somewhat sad.

I love this line, like he's trying to warn ladies even though he's on the other side of the "male ruled universe"

but then he's begging for it, in a reverse order, like he wants THEIR penetration, submitting, reversing gender roles, and then coming out again saying he doesn't want a relationship he just wants a one night stand. (that's just how I see it)

this is ridiculous, but at the beginning of the song right after the scream, I always hear "Is that my cock caught on the altar?" rather than "Is that my Concorde on a launcher? " Or some other variation. I think I'll just keep hearing it that way because it's ridiculous and fantastic.

I don't think this is what this song actually means to Kevin, because it is far too cynical, but here is what it means to me: (It is uncanny how Of Montreal manages to meet me EXACTLY where I am with the release of each new album!)

This really goes along with the feminist theory that I have been reading lately, as well as my own actions. The "phallocentric tyranny" is the idea of monogamy and marriage. It is possible to have wonderful amazing earth shattering sexual connections with people without wanting to get involved any further. Monogamy is more about possession than connection. I guess he still acknowledges patriarchal desires by saying he wants to "play with you," as if the woman is a doll or object, but honestly it just sounds like they want to have fun!

The language he uses is so interesting "my self concept is awaiting your invasion." Usually the man sees himself as the penetrator, and the woman is the one who is penetrated, but with this line the roles are reversed. I guess he is doing his part to dismantle the "phallocentric tyranny." I love of Montreal because they are really the only band that I would really call a queer band. They are not gay, but queer in that they challenge traditional gender roles and meanings surrounding sexual experience.

I think he means Id in Freudian terms. Your id is basically your pleasure center, so pleasure engager? That'd go with the theme of the song, too.

This part of the song really confuses me:

I think when they say 8-bit they are talking about technology maybe.. but i have no idea what he's talking about with the "blur" thing. And the "he" in the sentence could just be men in general. But the second line is the one that really confuses me. I think the "howl" is supposed to be him having an orgasm or something. . . or maybe sexual desire. But it still doesn't make sense to me. Can anyone make sense of it?

This song is really sad :(

It's about the hollowness of casual sex.

Their first verse was the one that says, "He's just a slutty little firt, and sister, he's only gunna hurt you." When you give yourself away sexually to someone who will not be there to give you emotional support, it can really damage your self-esteem, whether you are a man or a woman. "I'm screaming out to you from this phallocentric tyranny. My self-concept is awaiting your invasion, clumsy penetration, punishment." Ouch.

"When the hope of another wet nightmare is all we have to live for." So sad.
