You say we're both little people and you like it that way
But in time I'm gonna put this body to shame (and grow old)
Wear a suit like my old man
Pack up all my things and get my ass out of town

We've got it good
Whether you like this town or not
I know it's small but with a big head
It's bound to get hot
In the summer
But the summer is a bummer
If you can't leave
This pathetic excuse for a town

That holds all your memories
A lifetime of crushes and your broken dreams
To be anywhere but here
But baby anywhere is away from me

If you got it all figured out
Then what is there to shout about
This midwest town is gonna miss you
Just go ahead and work it out
But first come on and let it out
Scream it shout it tell everybody that you're gonna leave

In about one year you'll have it all figured out
These big city dreams are what you're about
Walking like strangers among these states
Only time will tell how long I can wait

We've got it good
Whether you like this town or not
I know it's small but with a big head
It's bound to get hot
In the summer
But the summer is a bummer
If you can't leave
This pathetic excuse for a town

That holds all your memories
A lifetime of crushes and your broken dreams
To be anywhere but here
But baby anywhere is away from me

If you got it all figured out
Then what is there to shout about
This midwest town is gonna miss you
Just go ahead and work it out
But first come on and let it out
Scream it, shout it tell everybody that your gonna leave

Me again oh so casually
Would you take the hit for me or the whole team?

If you got it all figured out
Then what is there to shout about
This midwest town is gonna miss you

    My Interpretation

To me this song is about a girl who is sick of living in her town and believes staying there won't get her anywhere in life. She just wants to leave it all behind, including him, who obviously is part of the town. I get the impression it doesnt seem like she realises how he's affected by it, she's just thinking of herself, but he still cares for her, when he says 'this midwest town is gonna miss you', it kind of seems hes referring to himself.

It's kind of like the grass is greener on the otherside situation - she thinks the city will fulfill all her dreams and that empty feeling she has from being in the town will go.

I also think he's angry by the situation, if she wants to move on then he's gonna try to aswell. He doesn't want her to make a commotion about it, he wants her to get out of there if that's what she wants. Also, due to the fact she's making a big commotion sounds like her idea of leaving is just an empty threat. He's trying to say, get out of here if thats what you want, but make a move, not a scene, it makes you wonder whether it's what she genuinely wants or whether she's just seeking attention.

I also get the sense he's wondering if she cares about him or the town at all 'would you take the hit for me or the home team?' that question will be burning in his mind.

Overall, I can totally relate to this song. When someone so important in your life just wants to leave the town that you live in, including leaving you behind to start a new life, it brings about all kinds of questions, it makes you reevaluate the person and wonder what you could have done wrong, whether they ever really cared etc.. you dont want them to keep going on about leaving because it hurts, it seems like quite a personal blow, even if they dont mean it in that way. You just want to accept it and move on, let them do what they want, because if they want to leave you behind then they obviously werent worth your time anyway.

    Memory

He is referring to Joplin Missouri as the small midwest town, where he grew up and got famous. "Christopher Drew" or Chris Ingle, is just letting out his feelings in this song about his home town and telling the girl how she needs to mature now that he's too famous for her....

this song pretty much means that he is tired of living in this small little town that is nothing and he wants to go and leave this town and make a name for himself.

I take this song as someone who is leaving their smaller home town to pursue a future elsewhere and the singers telling him that everyones going to miss her and that he wants to get out too someday

i think it's about a guy who's singin to his girl about how he knows she wants to leave and he kind of accepts it, but he'd rather she stayed, because he knows he's going to be left behind and he's going to miss her. he wants her to be happy here, because he wants to stay with her.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
