So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
Unforgettable
That's what you are
Unforgettable
Though near are far
Like a song of love that clings to me
How the thought of you does things to me
Never before has someone been more
Unforgettable
In every way
And forever more
That's how you'll stay
That's why, darling, it's incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that I am unforgettable too
That's why, darling, it's incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that I am unforgettable too
That's what you are
Unforgettable
Though near are far
Like a song of love that clings to me
How the thought of you does things to me
Never before has someone been more
Unforgettable
In every way
And forever more
That's how you'll stay
That's why, darling, it's incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that I am unforgettable too
That's why, darling, it's incredible
That someone so unforgettable
Thinks that I am unforgettable too

It IS surprising that there aren't more comments. When Natalie sings this song with her dad (via his album and a picture of him on the big screen beside her), it makes this song even more special. Nat had the most gorgeous voice...so romantic. He sang at a time in history when many black singers still weren't accepted in mainstream America due to this skin color. I believe Nat found more acceptance due to the quality of his voice. (It was difficult for even white women back then not to swoon.) Obviously a song about meeting someone and falling for them; they are "unforgettable" in that they are everything you could wish for...
Lack of comments...maybe because this is a repeat? :) Awesome tune nonetheless. I agree with you, wholeheartedly.
I don't see the song listed again with this artist. You're not my teacher; I don't need or want your help.
Huh? What about my friendship?
lol. Point taken.
