something’s in the air tonight
the sky's alive with a burning light
you can mark my words something's about to break

and i found myself in a bitter fight
while i've held your hand through the darkest night
don't know where your coming from but your coming soon

to a kid from oregon by way of california
all of this is more than i've ever known or seen

come on and we'll sing, like we were free
push the pedal down watch the world around fly by us
come on and we'll try, one last time
i'm off of the floor one more time to find you

and here we go there's nothing left to choose
and here we go there's nothing left to lose

so i packed my car and headed east
where i felt your fire and a sweet release
there's a fire in these hills thats coming down

and i don't know much but i found you here
and i can not wait another year
don't know where your coming from but you coming soon

to a kid from oregon by way of california
all of this is more than i’ve ever known or seen

come on and we'll sing, like we were free
push the pedal down watch the world around fly by us
come on and we'll try, one last time
i'm off of the floor one more time to find you

and here we go there's nothing left to choose
and here we go there's nothing left to lose

i can still hear the trains out my window
from hobart street to here in nashville
i can still smell the pomegranates grow
and i don't know how hard this wind will blow
or where we'll go

come on and we'll sing, like we were free
push the pedal down watch the world around fly by us
come on and we'll try, one last time
i'm off of the floor one more time to find you

and here we go there's nothing left to choose
and here we go there's nothing left to lose

when i first heard this song, i looked up who mat kearney was, and found out he is a christian rock artist. ever since, i've been trying to interpret this song keeping this in mind.
so, i think that this song can be interpreted as being spiritual for the speaker. instead of a romantic partner, i think the "person" he is referring throughout the song may be God. I could get the idea that he has had some sort of religiious awakening, particularly from the following lines: "and i found myself in a bitter fight while i've held your hand through the darkest night don't know where your coming from but your coming soon"

(maybe he feels God was guiding him through the hard times, holding his hand) (also, a lot of christian people believe that Christ will come again, so maybe that is what the last line refers to) "come on and we'll sing, like we were free push the pedal down watch the world around fly by us come on and we'll try, one last time i'm off of the floor one more time to find you" (maybe singing refers to rejoicing song such as in a church choir. the rest of it maybe refers to him trying to find God)

I am not a religious person nor am i that familiar with Mat Kearney, but I think interpreting it in the religious/christian context works pretty well.

This song is basically an autobiography of Mat's life. He was born in Oregon, and then went to college in California. Then he left California to pursue his career in music more specifically in Nashville.

"i can still hear the trains out my window from hobart street to here in nashville i can still smell the pomegranates grow and i don't know how hard this wind will blow or where we'll go" He went to school in chico ca where a train runs through town and if you live in the college part of town you hear it all the time. This line is in reference to him living on Hobart street and hearing the trains.

I think this song is about how a guy just found Jesus and he cannot wait to experience life now. It's like he's all fresh and excited. (i.e. the chorus)

"the sky's alive with a burning light" "there's a fire in these hills thats coming down" "i can still smell the pomegranates grow"

these lines just inspire me so, so much. for some reason i used to think he was sayin h could smell the pomegranate SKY, but anyway. fire and burning just make this song so much more beautiful.

this song is about letting go and breaking away and not caring about anything anymore. also how he doens't listen to the poeple who tell him running away will end in disaster bcause he's describing these beautiful scenes and how escaping from what most people would consider a good life, ends up in a more tragic but way more beautiful life.

so what if it doesn't rly say that in the lyric. that's what it means to me. not everything in an interpretation has to confrom totally to the lyrics.

I adore this song, its completely gorgeous. Mat Kearney is one of those artists who deserves to be really huge, so I was really surprised that I am the second person to make a comment on his page.

I think this song is about going on a road trip to find someone.

'so i packed my car and headed east...' 'push the pedal down watch the world around fly by us... i'm off of the floor one more time to find you'

''to a kid from oregon by way of california all of this is more than i’ve ever known or seen'' ^ thats my favourite bit

I couldn't figure out what this song was called or who made it for the longest! They finally said so on the radio today. I'm pretty much in love with this song, I can't get it out of my head at all.

This song is really awesome. To me it seems like its about a couple thats been together and not together alot of times, or maybe they've been lots of fights, so the guy is gonna try to make it work one more time... i dont know. I like the song. =)

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
