Lyrics for Hey You as interpreted by Demau Senae

Hey You Lyrics
Hey you ! out there in the cold
Getting lonely, getting old, can you feel me
Hey you ! Standing in the aisles
With itchy feet and fading smiles, can you feel me
Hey you ! don't help them to bury the light
Don't give in without a fight.
Hey you ! out there on your own
sitting naked by the phone would you touch me
Hey you ! with your ear against the wall
Waiting for someone to call out would you touch me
Hey you ! would you help me to carry the stone
Open your heart, I'm coming home
But it was only a fantasy
The wall was too high as you can see
No matter how he tried he could not break free
And the worms ate into his brain.
Hey you ! out there on the road
Doing what you're told, can you help me
Hey you ! out there beyond the wall
Breaking bottles in the hall, can you help me
Hey you ! don't tell me there's no hope at all
Together we stand, divided we fall.

I think the first half of the song is from the perspective of drugs and alcohol, singing out to everyone to try them.
The second half is after the drugs have worn their course and he knows hes trapped within the walls he built around himself w\ drug, alcohol, and this messed up world. And it seems no one will help him.
anyone else have any ideas?

I always thought this song was about the isolation some people feel .... Its like they've cut themselves off from the real world and now they're lonely.

The problem is that people try to look for deeper meanings within the album "The Wall"
You need to pretty much take these songs without reading too much into them.\
On that note..
"Hey You" starts the second CD of "The Wall", directly after Pink realizes that his wall of isolation he has built around himself is complete. "Hey You" is Pink trying to call out to the outside world but realizing that his communication has been cut.
You need to understand the concept of "The Wall" to understand the songs on the album.

it just about someone being trapped. and they r telling him not to let them bury his light and dont let his problems bury him. but in the end it just all crashes down

Hey all of you, i like the last two lines:
"Hey you ! don't tell me there's no hope at all
Together we stand, divided we fall."
this world has always been divided, but in the
end (God knows when), some will stand.

cory has the idea. but it is specificaly about a person, their first singer Barrett (for some reason cant remember his first name). he got into drugs alot. the reason that they wrote about him in DSotM and The Wall was they were responcible for his downfall. they thought he was entertaining on acid, so they started slipping it into his drinks. it got to the point where he didnt know if he was tripping or not, reality and illusion blurred together.

Drexial, sorry to say, but you are completely wrong. And his "name" was "Syd." But that was his nickname, I can't remember the real one at the moment, but I know your story is false.

I agree with Soma. He managed to build the wall around himself so high and shut everyone out that now his cries for help are unheard. He is calling out for help but nobody can hear him. It's almost like screaming but no sound coming out of your mouth. Kinda hard to explain. Almost like he's crying for help, but not in the traditionl way and nobody understands or can see what is really going on...He's despirate now and will call out to anyone...the guy on the street in the cold getting lonely getting old...the guy on his own sitting naked by the phone...the guy out there on the road always doing what he's told... anyone. OR maybe he's crying out to himself. maybe these thing are all him. maybe he's telling himself to not give in without a fight and end up in the ground barried and eaten by worms. hum...

i think its like this, this dude is looking for help but is not doing the best of his ability to get it. he is waiting for an outside force to help him and he is saying "hey you" to all the people on the outside.i can seriously relate to the whole album, and due to expiriences ive built a "wall" of not trusting people, so in my relation, i wouldnt ask for help becuase i didnt trust them. this seems to connect with the song...

i think that no one btu Syd can truely understand the song and even then i dont think he gets it fully. its just one of those things that u cannot slap a meaning on. it goes deeper than that. its true human feeling of lonelyness and iscolation. and unless uve been ther u have no idea.

The wall is a story. Songs have meanings. If you can't "slap a meaning" on something, then what can you do with it? People express the meaning through what they write so people that havent been there can have an idea. I think what I'm trying to say is: I completely disagree with Mr. Nice Guy

Just so you all know The Wall has nothing to do with Keith Roger (Syd) Barrett. It is Roger Waters' autobiography. The only albums dedicated to Syd are DSOTM and Wish you were here.

pink floyd is overrated...they're just another depressed band singing about their sad lives so people can pay money for it....if you wanna listen and enjoy some real talent, listen to old modest mouse

i like this song. i, for one, can listen to it way more than once. and by btw, blingincracker, to compare a modern band like modest mouse to a classic band like pink floyd is ridiculous. classic rock forms what today's rock music is. you don't know that modest mouse was in no way inspired by pink floyd. and i can see how some pink floyd songs may be depressing, but every band has a some sad songs. songs usually do have emotions being expressed. its a part of music.

blingincracker, "The Wall" probably is a hair on the overrated side, and I can see where you are coming from. "The Wall" is easily Pink Floyd's most depressing album, and it does get a little tired after a while. But Pink Floyd's entire career will easily out do anything a modern rock band could ever accomplish. Check their earlier work from the 70s.

Also does anyone else hear how the instruments between 2:05 and 2:35 seem to say "we don't need no education"?

that riff is pretty much repeated throughout the whole album. it's also in Waiting for the Worms and the Trial.
