When I'm with you
It doesn't matter where we are
Or what we're doing
I'm with you, that's all that matters

Time passes much too quickly
When we're together laughing
I wish I could sing it to you, whoa oh
I wish I could sing it to you

Oh oh oh oh oh oh woah oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh woah oh oh oh
Mostly I'm silent, hmm
Silent

When I kiss you
I feel a thousand different feelings
A cover of chills
All over my body
And when I feel them
I quickly try to decide which one
I should try to put into words, woah oh
Try to put into words

Oh oh oh oh oh oh woah oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh woah oh oh oh

Only the beginning
Only just the start
Oh oh oh oh oh oh woah oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh woah oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh woah oh oh oh

I think some of they lyrics are missing, but this has to be my favorite Chicago so far and maybe ever! It was like the first song I ever heard, and I like the starting lyrics "When I'm with you, it doesn't matter where we are or what we're doing. I'm with you, that's all that matters" that's so sweet

    Awsome love song!
When I kiss you, I deel a thousand different feelings...Only the beginning of what I want to feel forever... Also, I love that percussion thing at the end, but the radio stations always cut it off.

I've always thought this was one of Chicago's best love songs. Why? Several reasons.

    1. It's got a good melody.
    2. Good rhythm/beat.
    3. Good lyrics.

But most of all, it's not sappy, crappy, ballady, Peter Cetera stuff that dominated the 1980's. The story is so simple, sincere, and sweet. That's the main thing that sells it for me. It's not about how hot someone is, or "banging some chick", or anything like that. It's simply about the enjoyment and love of being with this person. If you ask me, that's a lot of what love is.

This song is about the start of relationships. Where you feel lucky to be around the person. And hence the title "Beginnings".

And Mattbluhalofan, I want to add to your list:

    1. Great use of horns in a genre where they are thought to be obsolete

This is one of my favorite Chicago songs. It's just sooo awesome. I LOVE Terry Kath's voice, hell, I love every voice that has played a part in Chicago's history, especially Peter Cetera. Great song!

I agree, definitely one of their best. It's so original compared to much of their typical sounding songs. I'm honestly not a big fan of Chicago; the band or the city. But this song does rock

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
