I'm not exactly sure what this song means nor will I make one interpration saying this song is about this because the question is 'what does this song mean to you?' I guess I kind of imagine it to be this king who looks in the mirror and says he doesn't know who he is anymore and who the "people" believe him to be. ' And there's a crack inside his plastic crown' meaning he went crazy, lost himself. 'cause he lives inside fairy tales and castles now and there's room inside for false expectations and illusions' another thing kind of implying crazy. Or not just a king just anyone losing themselves. |

I WARN ALL OF YOU DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS SONG! Do not even read the lyrics, because then you will want to listen to it. And if you do that you will get so hooked on it, because this is one of the best songs ever. After listening to it many times I had many ideas, but one stuck out the most about this beautiful song. My interpration is about someones mother dying, his since he's singing the song I guess... like when he was little "there's no one in town that I know, you gave us someplace to go" and he didn't know anyone, not yet in school. "I never said thank you for that..." he never got to thank her, like most of us are afraid to do with our parents. Then in the second paragraph "what would you think of me now? so lucky, so strong, so proud" what would his mom think of him after he grew up into what he is today, and would she be proud. "a song for a heart so big that God wouldn't let it live" and of course "may angels lead you in" |

This is my favorite song on their latest cd my fav. part is where they go "once asked him why, he said cause I am the last one here who cares." The story is about a painting in a museum getting less appreciation then it should and an old man who just stares at it and says the colors aren't that faded despite what people might think. Symbollically, I think the painting resembles life or society and the man "it's not to jaded, the more you look the more you see" is saying it's not doomed. |

The last comment was sort of ignorant... The song might have a hidden meaning about Jesus but obviously the song being about Jesus isn't that conspicious. And I'm not sure this song is left open for interpration. I'm a religious person but some of the lines, okay most of them, have nothing to do with Jesus: "On the battle field he gave respect to fame, with many medals of bravery and stripes to his name" okay basically every line except go now you are forgiven could be pointed to Jesus, and when put with the whole song and story it's not about him. Thinking about this song and history I came to the conclusion that this song is about Napoleon Bonaparte. He was a famous military and eventually political leader, and so great that he got the nickname The General. He was famous and known everywhere: "On the battlefield he gained respectful fame." Also the start of the song to "always urged his men on" explains him perfectly, considering he did lose a battle if you're thinking but Napoleon couldn't tell about lost battles if hardly lost. There were 2 he did lose, 3 because one he left and deceived his army. Napoleon fought in his wars, so the song is kind of like new Napoleon, instead of him turning his back on his army, he let the army turn back on him, and onward he marched into the fight. |

The lyrics are pretty cool and when she says "people living their lives for you on TV, they say they're better than you and you agree" I think she's saying how people on tv are always a certain way and considered "beautiful" and you have to be like them, the media enforces a certain way to look. And you actually start to believe they're better than you. |

Annie118k, I just said that I disagree with this song being anti-war, that I believed that the general thought the young men should live there lives first then decide what to fight for. Maybe you don't understand what anti-war means, cause I never said war is pointless. War has very much point to it, as does this song, and this song is not anti-war. |
