Maybe I've forgotten
The name and the address
Of everyone I've ever known
It's nothing I regret
Save it for another day, 'cause
The school is out
And the kids have run away

I would like a place I can call my own
Have a conversation on my telephone
Wake up everyday, that would be a start
I would not complain 'bout my wounded heart

I was upset, you see
Almost all the time
You used to be a stranger
Now you are mine

I wouldn't even trust you
I've not that much to give
We're dealing in the limits
And we don't know who with

You may think that I'm out of hand
That I'm naive, I'll understand
On this occasion, it's not true
Look at me, I'm not you

I would like a place I can call my own
Have a conversation on the telephone
Wake up everyday, that would be a start
I would not complain 'bout my wounded heart

I was a short fuse
Burning all the time
You were a complete stranger
Now you are mine

I would like a place I can call my own
Have a conversation on the telephone
Wake up everyday, that would be a start
I would not complain 'bout my wounded heart

Just wait 'til tomorrow
I guess that's what they all say
Just before they fall apart

    My Interpretation

I believe this song is about someone who's in an intense relationship and living with the person and he's thinking he wanted to move in with them originally (probably thinking how great it would be and might bring them closer) however now that this person is theirs and they're living together he realizes maybe this moving in together was a mistake and this song is regretting the decision. He's having a hard time cutting ties with this girlfriend (or wife) he's living with but dreams of once again living on his own and reminisces of his life when he was free and not tied down. He once once again wants a place he can call his own, not have to answer to anyone, have his own phone, wake up everyday stress free, no heartache and such. His heart is wounded cause he's in a bad relationship that he no longer wants to be in and he regrets them moving in together and he also regrets not having the guts break it off and walk away. Perhaps he thinks it'd really destroy her and he doesn't want to cause her all that pain.
