BoySetsFire – Twelve Step Hammer Program Lyrics
| 13 years ago
|
This song is possibly about people being addicted to gossip in the media and celebrity lifestyle.
A Twelve Step program is a rehabilitation program for drug addicts. Meanwhile, the song is littered with references to "tabloid garbage" and "fact or fiction", etc. |

Ah yes, that's it. Much better that what I said originally. Nice one. Still not sure about the very first line though. |

Deftones – Beauty School Lyrics

|
Not entirely about oral sex in my opinion.
I think this song was about taking sense-enhancing drugs (i.e. ecstasy) with someone who has never done it before. This line "Cause you could die if you take it alone" suggests that whatever it is their doing can be done alone, therefore ruling out blowjobs! |

Rydell – Analysis Of The Evidence Lyrics

This is my favorite from Hard On The Trail. I can only guess the song is comparing a car crash to a relationship. (Red lines of light, like you get on a motorway/highway at night... colliding & cutting across etc.) Not sure how the rest of it fits in with that though. |

I transcribed these lyrics before the album came out... so they're true to the original demo version of this song. They obviously changed a couple of words for the album version that's all... |

Above & Beyond – Can't Sleep Lyrics

No probs. I've always thought this song is most likely about a relationship, but I can't help thinking that the sleeplessness could be something to do with addiction. Like... you can't sleep because of cravings, or the insomnia after dropping an E etc. |

This song says "live fast... die young" to me.
You're living life out of line, and if you die because of it, at least you'll die with a smile. |

I've always thought those two lines make it sound like he quit a relationship in hope of something better, an "angel" "blinded him" if you like. But it didn't work out... and now he wishes he hadn't quit that relationship, and he wishes he wasn't all alone. |

What is it that he shouts at the end? It souds like "They're still shifting!" but I really can't tell. Anyone know for sure?
I agree with thephobia about the surrender part. There's no point to surrender, so keep on fighting. Although what I take away from this song is the bit about fear. It says that fear can be used as hatred or it could be used as love. And then it gives some good advice: Learn to use your fears as a fuel to get you where you need to be. In other words... It's OK to be afraid, but turn your fears to love and you can use it to your advantage. |

It's quite a depressing song really. Especially towards the end with the "Fall down, and repeat, fall down, keep falling." bit. But it's depressing in a good way, because like pezgirl said, it makes you wanna change the way you live your life. |

I've been trying to work out what Kelly screams at the start. I have this so far but I'm not quite sure if it's right or not:
I saw without conviction
Means there's no point in listening
For any kind of meaning and instruction.
You're wasted. |

It was originaly a Howards Alias song. All I did was copy the lyrics that I submitted for this song on the Howards Alias page!
I think I prefer the Howards Alias version better, but it's still a great song. |

The Clash – Rudie Can't Fail Lyrics

Someone above was asking why the rudy can't fail. It's taken from the Desmond Dekker song "007 (Shanty Town)"...

Rudeboys cannot fail 'cause them must get bail."
Now you know why... |

I always thought it said 'Mushroom cloud' becuase the song seems to be about nuclear war. But it always sounds like he says 'mushroom flowers'. Any one got a clue as to what that's about?
This is probably one of RX's best. Great lyrics, and great to dance to. |

Lamb of God – Omerta Lyrics

I kinda have a different perspective on this song. In the opening speech, Judas is pictured as the 'assailant' and Jesus is the 'wounded man'. Judas is the one that appealed to the law (or romans... whatever) to betray Jesus. The speech then says (from Jesus' perspective) "If I live, I will kill you". Given the fact that Jesus supposedly rose again etc. and now is 'alive' in heaven... acording to the speech, Jesus has to get revenge on Judas, yes?
The rest of the lyrics are then all about Jesus getting 'revenge', causing Judas being subject to eternal damnation, and being locked out of heaven by St. Peter, etc. |

The Clash – Wrong 'em Boyo Lyrics

Stagger Lee is a famous 'legend' retold in lots of blues and jazz songs. Each artist has their own take on the story. For example Nick Cave has a dark song called 'Stagger Lee' where Stagger goes to a pub, shoots a barman, leaves with a woman, and then shoots her husband who happens to be this 'Bill' guy.
I don't know all the small details, but apparently it's roughly based on a true story. Look it up. It's quite interesting. |

Rx Bandits – In Her Drawer Lyrics
|
Theauroratheory's got it right. Society projects an image of how everyone should be perfect. Apparently we should be just like the shiny happy people on TV and in advertisements. In an effort to become this 'perfect' person, people end up taking loads of medication for every little problem they think they have. When most of the time the problems aren't actually problems at all.
In this song he uses a girl to represent the 'pure' human who does not take medication. And he feels like an outsider because he knows that he's impure. In the last bit of this song he wants to replace the medication with this girl so that she can make him better instead. |

Rx Bandits – Only For the Night Lyrics
|
This is RX Bandits here, they seem like good honest people so I doubt very much it's solely about taking heroine. But I reckon he's using a drug adiction as a metaphor for this girl.
"I say that I don’t need her but I know it’s a lie" relates to his adiction for her. Alot of drug users deny they have a problem and deny that they need the drug to survive.
"She holds me when I’m shaking. It makes me better
only for the night" is about him 'using' this girl to get his 'fix' which calms him down, but it only lasts the night.
"I swear, I swear this is the last time I tie it" is him trying to give up the adiction, which he finaly manages to do in the "and lately I’ve been lonely" part.
That's maybe it. But I always hate saying songs are about drugs. It's soooo boring. There's got to be much more to this song. |

Long Beach Dub Allstars do a version of this featuring Barrington Levy, the original brains behind this song. It seems like the ex-sublime boys are paying propper homage to the creator. Check it out. The lyrics aren't just about priests and children... it's relating religion to terrorism. |
