Gordon Lightfoot – If You Could Read My Mind Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I was 2 years old when this song came out. Like a lot of good literature, this song means different things to different people, irrespective of the authors actual meaning when he wrote it. Granted a lot of the themes are going to be similar but with a lot of individual tweaking of those themes so suit an individual's situation. It does make me cry every time I hear it. I feel like this part describes my life: When you reach the part where the heartaches Come the hero would be me. Heroes often fail. And you won't read that book again Because the endings just to hard to take. Just not quite the way Gordon meant it when he wrote it. |

The best song lyrics have different meanings to different people based upon their own frames of reference. When you can write and have it mean different things to you on multiple levels with the same words, that is good writing. |

Pretty much. In the metaphor of walking paths through life. My question is in this regard to the song, does one need to go through the wrong path to find the right one? To experience the evil and hardships of the world to truly appreciate the correct path for you? To be refined, to have the impurities taken out, etc...? |
