This was one of Death's earliest songs from when they were called Mantas and a little after that [very early days of Death]. It has had quite influence on death metal and gore metal, along with the other songs on the Mantas/Death demos.
George Fisher nicknamed himself after this song and Massacre made a great cover of it on From Beyond. Anyway, it's obviously about necrophilia. |

Great band and all but there's this weird thing about them. Like many NWOBHM bands at the time, they weren't successful (others like Iron Maiden and Motorhead were). But when cited by Metallica (possibly the biggest name in thrash metal) as a great influence, they attained cult status and many fans consider them underrated and worthy of more praise...
But at the same time they ignore other important NWOBHM bands like, for example, Satan. Great song nonetheless and as I said, great band. |

Massacre's From Beyond is a death metal classic. Sadly, along with being death metal pioneers, they also released the dreaded 1996 album... Promise. Very bad vocals, bad guitars... seriously, this is ONE death metal album that you CAN call "simply just noise". Complete with bad and kind of surreal vocals about relationships.
It wasn't even Kam Lee singing, it was some other guy (at least so he claims, probably too scared to admit he did sing in it, who knows?) |

This song is often misattributed to Alice in Chains. In fact, I first downloaded it as an AiC song and was surprised that I never saw it on any AiC record. It wasn't until very recently that I found out it was a Circus of Power song. REALLY easy to confuse with AiC's style. I think Jerry Cantrell did contribute to it though.

Raw and lo-fi, but that's to be expected. Death shifting to a more technical edge was a good thing honestly. I have nothing against their early sound, but I kind of like technical Death better. |
