Daughter – Touch Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This song just feels so much like someone who's seeking the feeling of being close to someone, being wanted, being loved. It's sleeping with the wrong people just to find the feeling that being touched can give, but all it makes them feel is hollow. They're desperate to "feel something". |
alt-J – Breezeblocks Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I love this song all the more for it making reference to my favourite Children's book Where The Wild Things Are. "Do you know where the wild things go?" as well as the lines "Please don’t go, I’ll eat you whole, I love you so" being very similar to the lines "Please don't go, I'll eat you up, I love you so" in the book. |
Keaton Henson – Charon Lyrics | 12 years ago |
"Charon, in Greek mythology, is the ferryman of the dead. The souls of the deceased are brought to him by Hermes, and Charon ferries them across the river Acheron. He only accepts the dead which are buried or burned with the proper rites, and if they pay him an obolus (coin) for their passage. For that reason a corpse had always an obolus 1 placed under the tongue." |

I couldn't agree more. It's heartbreaking, really. |
Ben Howard – Keep Your Head Up Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I spent my time watching the spaces that have grown between us And I cut my mind on second best or the scars that come with the greenness And I gave my eyes to the boredom, still the seabed wouldn't let me in And I tried my best to embrace the darkness in which I swim Oh, the darkness in which I swim I'm walking back down this mountain with the strength of a turning tide Oh, the wind's so soft on my skin, the sun was so hot upon my sides Oh, looking out at this happiness, I search for between the sheets Oh, feeling blind and realise: all I was searching for was me All I was searching for was me Keep your head up, keep your heart strong No, no, no, no Keep your mind set, keep your hair long Oh, my darling, keep your head up, keep your heart strong Oh, no, no, keep your mind set in your ways Keep your hair, keep your hair long 'Cause I'll always remember you the same Oh, eyes are wild flowers, within demons of change I saw a friend of mine the other day and he told me that my eyes were gleaming Oh, I said I had been away, and he knew Oh, he knew the depths I was meaning And it felt so good to see his face or the comfort invested in my soul Oh, to feel the warmth of a smile, when he said: "I'm happy to have you home, oh, I'm happy to have you home." Keep your head up, keep your heart strong No, no, no, no Keep your mind set, keep your hair long Oh, my, my darling, keep your head up, keep your heart strong Oh, no, no, keep your mind set in your ways Keep your hair, keep your hair long 'Cause I'll always remember you the same Oh, eyes are wild flowers, within demons of change |
Ben Howard – The Fear Lyrics | 12 years ago |
My, my cold hearted child, tell me how you feel Just a blade in the grass, spoke unto the wheel My, my cold hearted child, tell me where it's all gone All the luster of your bones, those arms that held you strong I've been worrying that my time is a little unclear I've been worrying that I'm losing the ones I hold dear I've been worrying that we all, live our lives In the confines of fear My, my cold hearted child, tell me how you feel Just a grain in the morning air, dark shadow on the hill My, my cold hearted child, tell me where it all falls All this apathy you feel will make a fool of us all I've been worrying that my time is a little unclear I've been worrying that I'm losing the ones I hold dear I've been worrying that we all live our lives In the confines of fear Oh, I will become what I deserve Oh, I will become what I deserve Oh, I will become what I deserve Oh, I will become what I deserve I've been worrying I've been worrying I will become what I deserve I've been worrying My time is a little unclear I will become what I deserve I've been worrying, I've been worrying That my time is a little unclear I've been worrying, I've been worrying That I'm losing the ones I hold dear I've been worrying, I've been worrying That we all live our lives In the confines of fear |
Ben Howard – The Wolves Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I'm not sure if it's just me, but the lyrics aren't showing up here. So here they are: Falling from high places, falling through lost spaces Now that we're lonely, now that there's nowhere to go Watching from both sides, these clock towers burning up I lost my time here, I lost my patience with it all We lost faith, in the arms of love Where've you been hiding lately? Where've you been hiding from the news? Because we've been fighting lately We've been fighting with the wolves With the wolves Red tongues and hands Falling from high places, falling through lost spaces Now that we're lonely, now that we're so far from home Watching from both sides, these tower's been tumbling down I lost my mind here, I lost my patience with the lord We lost faith, in the arms of love Where've you been hiding lately? Where've you been hiding from the news? Because we've been fighting lately We've been fighting with the wolves With the wolves Red tongues and hands We lost faith, in the arms of love |

Tommy Reilly – Make the Bed Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song is so beautiful. I think it's about tiny moments of realisation. PS: I think you've got the line correct with the (?) next to it, but there's a tiny correction for this "Lights of every bit of life once dull" in that it should be "up" instead of "of". :) |

Bombay Bicycle Club – Swansea Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"If you want to come on down Down with your bones so white And watch while the freight trains pound Into the wild, wild night" = absolutely gorgeous. I think this song might be about sex, actually. Words like "pound", the concept of a "wild" night and an overtly sexual, almost animalistic middle verse - "How I would love to gnaw To gnaw on your bones so white". I think the fact that the bones are "so white" are meant to symbolise innocence. It's just a boy who likes an innocent girl and wants to have sex with her, I suppose. |
Bombay Bicycle Club – Fairytale Lullaby Lyrics | 13 years ago |
@thisisanon It really does, haha. I think it might be more about dreams though, hense the lines: "You will find that all the things that I have said Will come true when you are lying in your bed". When I listen to this song I always picture a father singing it to their child, reassuring them that they can go anywhere and do anything if they dream. There's no room for the fear of nightmares when heads are filled with beautiful possibilities. |
Bombay Bicycle Club – Leaving Blues Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I think the line "Keep the side of you aflame" is meant to be "Keep the thought of you aflame". |
The XX – Fantasy Lyrics | 14 years ago |

The Weepies – Slow Pony Home Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"Its the second September I have known you Four years or so ago, I rode a pony, called him Truth We didn`t know the way so it took us till today to get here" I think that the "pony" is a symbol for love. She'd known the guy for 2 years, but 2 years prior to that she was riding the "pony" (aka. love) with someone else who hurt her so much that she had to learn to love again. "And all that time, I felt just fine I held so many people in my suitcase heart That I had to let the whole thing go It was taken by the wind and snow And I still didnt know that I was waiting For a girl on a slow pony home" The whole time that she was single she thought she was fine, surrounded by friends and family that she carried in her "suitcase heart", to block out the pain of feeling alone. However, she realised it wasn't enough, she wanted love and she was waiting for herself "a girl on a slow pony home" to realise that. "I can remember when I first saw you You said in my photograph I looked more far away I laughed and smiled and didnt say I am a bit afraid to be here." She remembers when she first saw the guy. I thought perhaps they'd met on the internet and all he'd seen was a photograph in which she "looked more far away". She "laughs and smiles" because it's the first time she's had intentions of being with someone since her relationship before. "Setting free the anchor and looking past the shore Its a sea of horses on ships with no sails, no motors, no oars" She's letting her boat sail, she's not directing it especially, just letting it be free. She's letting her heart take her where it decides to, with no need for "sails, motors" or "oars". "Now were cleaning the windows between us two Funny, you do it once, and then again, and pretty soon the fingerprints and dust... But Ive begun to trust the view here." I think then that the song takes a shift in time. She was reflecting before and now it's the present. The last verse is a scene of a moment that they now share, something mundane like "cleaning the windows", but it is in this moment that she realises that she's "begun to trust the view here". She's ready to fall in love. Sorry that my interpretation was so stupidly long! :) |

Kate Nash – Take Me To A Higher Plane Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Kate Nash – Don't You Want to Share the Guilt? Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The album lyrics are slightly different to these ones posted here: BBQ food is good You invite me out to eat it I should go, but I'm feeling kind of nervous and not quite myself So I'm running late on purpose And I know this won't help how things have become between us But if I go you'll give me hell And that I don't know how to fix it is making me unwell, well I arrive at your house, but you've just got up And you are wearing a towel and your eyes look dark I help to dry your body and I see your cut So I give you a plaster and we cover it up I say "Have you been crying?" and you say "Shut up" So we sit in the garden and touch the grass with our hands The sun is going down now and it's been ok You tell me all these things you did while I was away And this worries me somewhat But you say you're fine Listen, can you hear it? Does it speak? Will I feel it? Will it hurt? Am I near it? I don't know I don't know how more people haven't got mental health problems Thinking is one of the most stressful things I've ever come across And not being able to articulate what I want to say drives me crazy I think I should read some more books, learn some new words My sister used to read the dictionary, I'm going to start with that I'd like to travel, I want to see India and the pyramids A whale and that race with all the bicycles in France I'm not sure about rivers, they scare me But I love swimming, I'm good at it And when I swim I count the laps and this helps me relax When I was younger I saw a house burn down And I walked past it for the next six years Derelict, black, chalky and dangerous I wondered if squatters lived there I'm still not sure, but I know there were never any parties because it was a shithole After a while the council got round to tidying up the town They decided it was an eyesore so they tore it down Behind the house was a wall with a few bits of crappy graffiti and the word "Cunt" written in giant letters And now I walk past that I like going to the park and I like walking through it I like taking my dogs there and friends And I like being alone I like being able to shout, but I wish I could be quiet When I'm quiet people think I'm sad And usually I am Sometimes when I'm at a busy train station Somewhere big with the noisy trains like King's Cross I feel like putting down my bags and shouting things out because I've got something to say Don't you want to share the guilt? Don't think, just try and sleep |

Kids in Glass Houses – The Morning Afterlife Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is lovely. I think it's about the break down of a relationship (how cliché), but it seems that it can be more openly applied to situations. "Just when you thought the world was yours When you thougth you had it all Just when you thought you'd done enough to Get you through the night, the night" It's like as soon as you hit the top, you fall back down again. It's the wonderful thing that life does when you're walking along smoothly and then suddenly something trips you up again. |

Florence + the Machine – Drumming Song Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Whenever I hear this song I actually think it's about murder. I figured the pounding could be the sound you hear when your heart is beating so fast it almost feels like a pulse in your head. I thought she was afraid of what she'd done, afraid she'd get caught for it. "Louder than sirens" - could be police sirens. "And hotter than hell" - could be a reference to where she could end up, in some people's belief. And with the whole "As I move my feet towards your body", body makes it sound so lifeless, almost like her feet are approaching its place on the floor. Then I took it that she felt remorse for what she'd done. She couldn't live with the guilt and, ultimately, the noise, so she attempted to drown herself: "I run to the river and dive straight in I pray that the water will drown out the din But as the water fills my mouth It couldn't wash the echoes out". Yeah, that's just my (rather morbid) take on it, haha. But I see what you guys are saying too. :) |
You Me at Six – Gossip Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The CD lyrics are slightly different. The chorus is: But tonight, but tonight, we will be alright Yes, the champagne is on ice for you and I And oh right and oh right, oh we will be alright Because we've had it all, and all thats left inside Let's just keep on talking The 2nd verse is: I smell your scent on my skin and the clothes that I wear It's a thought in my head and I can't shake it, of you and him Sh-sh-sh-shake it I am at the party too, I am in the room next to you With your back to the door and your ear to the floor And you were desperate :) |
Biffy Clyro – Whorses Lyrics | 14 years ago |
With regards to your (?) parts of the lyrics... "Got Jesus' Autograph No handshake or pat on the ass His saving grace was talking fast" "The wound is king And how his whorses turn, they make him proud His vision's clipped like wings and crowns Let's use this photograph He's never had the chance to believe in something else" "Wherever we crash, we're gonna blame it on the old Unique to the touch and crippled to the bone However we stand they'll be swinging from the ropes Unfinished and young or unhappy and old" I think? :) |
OneRepublic – Everybody Loves Me Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I actually thought this song was an ironic take on fame. If you look at the lyrics from the point of the view that he's taking the piss out of people who are consumed by the idea of being a celebrity, it does make sense. Particularly with lines like: "Don't need my health Got my name and got my wealth" It's a wicked song anyway, whatever it may mean. :) |
